West Ham’s board are believed to have held a meeting yesterday as the Dimitri Payet dramas threaten to go down to the wire and beyond.
We understand the club are still attempting to agree on which line to take should Marseilles again come up short on the £30 million basic fee we require.
It looks likely that IF the French club come back it will be at around £28 million or even a touch less and that will present a big dilemma to the board where different ideas on the way forward have prevailed for some time.
The’ keep or stay’ debate didn’t stop the club moving in on Robert Snodgraass which took the window spending to £18 million following Jose Fonte’s arrival.
And there remains an outside chance that the club will do some kind of deal for Brentford’s Scott Hogan although that looks less likely at the moment.
Stories were circulating yesterday that we are ready to come to a compromise deal with Marseilles as our position softened but that was denied to us last night when we asked.
Responding to our question: “Is there a solution closer we were told: “Sadly not!”
For Gods sake I hope the board insist a sell on clause of 50% above of what ever we sell him for. You can just see Marseille selling him in to a Chinese club for 50 Million Euro’s in a years or 18 months time.
Here’s my solution ,for what it’s worth. If we end up having to keep Payet until the summer, you are looking at another £2.5m in wages.Surely if Marseille come back with another offer under the £30m that the Davids’ want, can we not take into account the saving on wages?I am all for WH sticking it out for what they want but I don’t see any benefit to keeping Payet til the summer.
I am with Eug, a 50% sell on fee is a must, especially as it looks more likely now that we will cave in and sell under our minimum asking price of £30 million.
I hate to se Payet and Marseille get their way here, I would hate it even more if Marseille were to profit from another windfall when Payet moves to China a year from now.
