West Ham invest over £36m in two players

|

snoddy1The completion of the Robert Snodgrass transfer means West Ham have invested over £36m in two players during the January transfer window.

Jose Fonte cost the Hammers a £8m fee plus a potential extra £1m in add-ons.  He signed a two and a half year contract on wages believed  to be £65,000 per week which will cost the Hammers  a further £8.4m in wages over the next two and a half seasons.

Snodgrass was signed for a £7m fee with another potential £3.2m of add-ons. He signed a three and a half year contract on wages believed to be £50,000 per week which will cost the Hammers £9.1m in wages over his contract lifetime.

Adding this up totals to a potential club investment of £36.7m over the next four years in transfer fees, add-ons and wages.
Fonte3However the book’s could be balanced in a swipe of a pen on transfer deadline day if Marseille agree to pay £28m for Dimitri Payet and that would mean West Ham would off load their commitment to pay the Frenchman an additional £29m in wages over the next four and a half years.  That deal would be worth a combined £57m in transfer  fees and wage saving leaving more to invest elsewhere.

Brentford continue to insist on a transfer fee of £15m for Scott Hogan but his wages would be more modest coming from the championship. A five year deal for the 24 year old might cost in the region of £6.5m in wages over his contract to begin with.

Should the Hogan deal be pushed through it would mean the proceeds of the Payet sale and the wage saving would have already been spent on three new players.

What about the £20m+ (excl wages) we’d have paid for Zaza should he have completed the required number of games ? Leaves plenty more in the kitty, so we should expect a lot more than the signing of an injury prone Championship striker

    • Good point about Zaza although we didn’t pay the 20m Euros so there was no commitment to pay. I will add that to the story but Zaza wages were only committed for another six months. We still paid the full season loan fee. We probably save £1.3m in wages though

So another day another dig at Sean from the all knowing gurus at Daphnes daily forum! Sean I appreciate what you do mate and thanks for the updates shame there are those in cyberspace that don’t have the same courtesy 🙂

    • John says:

Yeah what as that all about GW? Sean simply stated how much was invested over the contract term. He never misled anyone. Sean should stop doing the occasional article over there if they just slag him off. I was pleased he didn’t post the Blogs meeting notes with Brady over there as while the other sites were discussing the blogs meeting with Brady they were discussing their normal irrelevance. Keep up the good work Sean. I see the minutes of the SAB meeting has been issued. Seems steady and regular progress on all fronts imo

I broached this subject yesteday with regards to the comments about the headlines & Sean & Hugh.Them being called ********s,clickbait & Hugh. Now today ****heads & other such like.Enough is enough.Does Sean not post for their site as well…its total disrespect to the man.
But lets not satisfy the ones who want this place to go into meltdown as they put it.Its what they want.

        • Colin Irons says:

It does rather make Hamburgs visits here to lay down the law a tad irrelevant. He seems to be MIA when they do the same Lol

          • Radai Lama..Out of contract & available says:

Lol let them get on with it.Like i said yesterday they will never change & as i said to to our loveable cuddly German Hammer its them look like hypocritical two face b*stards when Sean next posts there & they are licking his rosebud about his article & telling him how good it is to see him posting there 😂😂

I don’t think there is any dig at Sean- the point about spend it that it is a pint in time. I am sure that we will sell Payet soon and net spend will be well down.
It wasn’t long ago we were anticipating a bacca or batshuyi alongside Payet. Soon we won’t have any of those whilst we get excited about snodgrass and a championship striker with hopefully potential. It is what it is- Payet is knowones fault – I just don’t think we should get too carried away with our spend. We were after all promised a world class team in a world class stadium. Hopefully in time we shall se some genuine signs

  • Hey It doesn’t bother me. I get called worst on forums, twitter and facebook.

If you blog or have an opinion you have to be thick skinned and not take it personally, there are plenty of keyboard warriors out there who love to troll and have a pop. I try not to encourage them by reacting or giving them publicity which is often what they crave. I mainly find it amusing and laugh it off, occasionally I feel sorry for them but everyone is entitled to an opinion however deluded so snipe away.

My standard response is before you knock anyone’s article or blog you should be prepared to do it yourself. We welcome the occasional guest blog whatever the view because at least those people have the bottle to publish their opinion and have them open to public criticism.

As the old saying goes, Don’t knock it until you try it!

    • Colin Irons says:

Thats a great attitude to have Sean.I couldnt do what you do i would take it too personally.I dont have that thick skin like you.I guess it gives them something to talk about though & allows them to make presumptuous remarks about who is who on here or if we are new or not.Funny its always the same two or three seem to want to get their nose stuck right in about this site.Maybe they are just born stirrers.

  • Hammer And Pickle says:

Just keep up the good work Sean. Most Irons fans appreciate the work you and Hugh do.The ones who simply want to b!tch about you or this forum are the stupid morons with nowt better to do!

  • HamburgHammer says:

I find s*** stirring in general pathetic, and that goes for whatever forum you post on, I find it all rather silly. I get the point about the headline though. When signing players, you rarely factor in wages, do you?
Pogba’s transfer fee was always quoted as 90 million and I don’t think it includes his wages.
When talking about the Payet transfer fee, will we include the wages paid to Payet by Marseille? Of course not.
So I personally wouldn’t have used that headline, but it’s Sean’s article and therefore his decision, right, must dash, Daphne is ready with tea and biscuits…;-)

    • Radai Lama..Out of contract & available says:

Earl Grey & Rich Tea biscuits i assume H.No PG Tips & Custard Creams for you old chap 😁
