CandH’s Niall McDonald has no doubt about his man of the match in this latest set of ratings. He takes it to the max after a great performance from the boys.

Randolph: One sharp save in first half. One regulation save in the second 6

Cresswell: “is he treading water?” a fan behind me asked before the break. Looked happier at left-back after it 6

Reid: Kept Benteke very quiet and relished the robust battle with Tomkins at set pieces 7

Ogbonna: Cruises around in a back three. A positive change saw him withdrawn at the interval 5

Collins: 30% aerial challenges, 40% no nonsense clearances, 30% passes back to the keeper 6

Noble: Got his first “you’re so slow Noble” after only nine mins today. To be fair he kept at it 6

Obiang: Excellent game management in the middle again. Invites the ref to stop the game very professionally 8

Lanzini: Magnificent. Ran the game. Covered every blade of grass and capped it with a goal. Boys own stuff 10

Feghouli: What a fortnight! Sort of stuff from which cult heroes are formed 8

Antonio: Pushed up front after the interval showed great composure to set up the first two goals 8

Carroll: This was already a superlative display of centre-forward play and then he scored. “I could watch that goal about a thousand times” my son said, and I’m sure we all will 10

Subs

Byram: A right-back playing right-back! This could catch-on you know. Some crunching tackles 7

Fernandes: In the delirium of the victory I confess I can’t remember if he did much *insert your own score*

Fletcher: Shepherded the ball down to the corner flag very calmly in stoppage time No rating

I have to say very proud of the team, manager and his staff after that second half performance instigated by a positive substitution at half time. I keep saying it Carroll cannot play as the lone striker but when you play two up, he is a different player. Today was a prime example. The second half was perhaps our best performance of the season. The big plus for me was Feghouli – for the first time I could see a player who can and wanted to play for West Ham. The other big plusses were Obiang is just getting better and better nd Lanzini. I would still like us to get in 4 players, Randolph is very good but if Joe Hart could be persuaded to join, it would be a great deal. Byran was so much better than Nordsvelt – he got forward very well but defensively the jury is still very much out. A top rb is so badly needed. Thirdly Noble played one or two cracking balls but overall his display was just about average. We need a replacement for him and perhaps a more creative player someone like Sigurdson who could also replace Payet. Finally we need a forward who can play alongside Carroll or Sakho but also could play wide when needed.

I thought Bryam was excellent when he came on. I really hope Slav is learning. The second half performance was fantastic but lets not get ahead of ourselves as the first half was pretty woeful. What a difference a few changes can make, so it just goes to show that when you play people in their ‘right’ positions and not your top goalscorer at right wing back you can hurt teams. Palace are slow at the back but we played into their hands first half. It would have been nice if Bilic had started with perhaps the team that started the first half but we are getting there.

Brilliant.I could not have scripted it better in my wildest dreams and what a way to shove Payets petulance down his throat than with our best performance at the new stadium.Topped off with Feghoulis goal and his best performance in claret and blue,Lanzini was awesome with a lovely cool finish to round it all off.Antonio created it all when pushed forward. With Byram brought on we had a recognised right back and the chances suddenly came and to top it all off the icing on the cake ACs wonder strike which will go down in Hammers folklore.Bloody marvellous.COYI.

I think you will find that those of us who had ever watched Feghouli before in Spain knew his ability. That some fans drew conclusions after a few bloody minutes is their problem. The same applies to Nordveit.Though Tore i ave no defence for .
I am a fan of Byram as well another some ave made their minds up about too rapido. No change there then.

    • Richie says:

Sticky you are right. The issue has been that Bilic has been playing these players out of position. Nordveit and Feghouli were very good for their foreign clubs last year – Id like to see Nordveit played in CDM – possibly not with noble (as both will be too slow) – i think Nordveit could do a good job alongside Obiang. At the moment Obiang has to do the running for two people!

Im with you dude.I have been fortunate to have travelled around Europe with me job over the last decade or so & have taken in loads of the European Leagues. You get to see most these players & feghouli was the dogs down the wing at Valencia absolute lightning dude & Nordveit was a well solid good dm at Moen’glad.Skippered them also sometimes if i remember right.
You gotta give these players time somtimes. Not write em off after one or two games.Tore forget about him aint got it for this league.

  • Carrerageorge says:

Nobles had a good game, despite a couple of astray passes.
In the first half he did a great cross which created a good half volley for Carroll. His clever chip put Antonio through to create the first goal and he contributed well in the build up to the second.

    • Richie says:

You have to be joking ….. unfortunately Nobles time has come. I won’t say a bad word about the guy due to his commitment to the team over the years he has been a true gent and a great captain but the team needs to evolve.

He is too slow off the ball and 9 times out of 10 passes backwards or sideways. I actually think our best midfield with everyone fit and available would be Obiang, Kouyate and Lanzini. I’d also like to see Nordveit given a chance through the middle.

Bilic made a positive change at half time but i also think he would have brought on either Fernandes or even Oxford for Noble after we went 1-0 for more legs in the middle of the park.

I woukd ave liked to ave seen schneiderlin come to us.Would ave been a good signing as a replacement.Love Noble the man not the player

  • Stratford E20 says:

Hugh – I thought that Antonio created all three goals. Feghouli was man of the match for me. Lets hope that this is the turnaround.
