Brereton Diaz hopes fading

West Ham are unlikely to sign Ben Brereton Diaz from Blackburn in January.

The Hammers were interested in signing the Chile international in the summer and explored the viability of a deal.

The Irons eventually signed Gianluca Scamacca instead, and there have been reports that the Irons are leading the race to secure Brereton Diaz’s signature in January.

His contract expires in the summer, though, and there is a feeling he may hold out for a potential free transfer in the summer, with a huge signing-on fee likely to be added into any deal.

The opportunity was there for Moyes to sign Brereton Diaz in the summer and insiders feel he is unlikely to change his mind in the January window.

The Hammers are more likely to focus on strengthening their defence and midfield, with there being a fair amount of numbers in terms of attacking options.

Brereton Diaz has been in good form this season and scored against the Hammers when Blackburn knocked them out of the EFL Cup.
