Burnley presents chance to blood Hammers youngsters: Orford

Obviously, neither I nor any other fan, are holding their breath but the game against Burnley presents a chance to blood Hammers youngsters.

There can be no question that even the most professional players will feel the strain of travelling to Germany, suffering a defeat and retuning to more training, before heading into the Premier League battle against the Clarets, writes Hughie Southon.

Yet, sadly such is the state of the squad there is little or no room for rotation with even one of its highest paid players, the Moyes signed Danny Ings, no longer mentioned and Mikey Antonio still seen as the obvious choice to bustle up chances when called upon.

Burnley presents chance to blood Hammers youngsters: Earthy

No doubt the manager will stick by the hope that by picking his best, but no doubt tired team, that will help us make Europe again this season on league position – a suggestion which had me wondering just how far he expects us to go this time in the Europa League as things stand!

Beyond all of that though is the prospect of such as Lewis Orford, thought by many to be the next Declan Rice, Ollie Scarles and George Earthy plus others getting their chances for say 20 or 25 minutes with maybe even one of them starting.

With the Hammers safe from relegation and playing a team that looks no more than an average Championship outfit, why not give them a go? Answer: Because we are managed by David Moyes who appears to have little or no belief in most of them and reminding us that “it’s tough for youngsters to break through these days.”

One looks at Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp enviously as he manages to produce players from the academy capable of getting big results while most of us at the Hammers are left wondering when ours will be leaving for other clubs .

Maybe they aren’t proving good enough to impact elsewhere because they are being raised in the Moyes way!
