Can the Irons see it through?

|

Fears the Hammers can’t replicate last season are rapidly being put to bed.

After the early success of the season, aside from a heartbreaking loss to United when Jesse Lingard struck late, they have turned in impressive performance after impressive performance, capping it with that phenomenal 3-2 win over one of the best teams in Europe: Liverpool.

As a result, the Irons went into the international break in third, just three points off top spot.

But can the Irons remain in contention, not just for the top four, but for the title, as the season rolls on?

For those who believe the answer is a big fat yes, there are various existing and new sportsbooks available online to place a bet on the Hammers’ upcoming matches and predict where the team will finish in the table at the end of the season.

Of course, there are plenty of rivals for the top four, with the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Spurs all pressing their noses up against the glass.

Tough fixtures ahead

A saturated fixture list has become the norm for Premier League teams in the winter months and this season is no different. We face an unenviable week of fixtures at the end of the month against Man City, Brighton and Chelsea inside seven days.

In total, in December, the Hammers will play nine games; after playing the Seagulls and the Blues, the Hammers face Dinamo Zagreb in the Europa League, a competition they’ve put in a number of impressive performances in already, Burnley, Arsenal, Norwich, Spurs in the EFL Cup, Southampton and Watford.

The star players

As always, fans will be reliant on Mikey Antonio to provide goals up front. However, with the winter period often tough on the legs and Antonio’s injury record far from pristine, he may have to be used sparingly.

Whilst the 31-year-old forward has stayed fit so far this season, he missed 13 games in the previous campaign due to muscle injuries and it would be no surprise to see him face a spell on the side-lines again, so January may be key in terms of signing a striker, with Eddie Nketiah linked.

A successful window will be vital to a top-four finish this season and a historic place in the Champions League next year. Moyes has already shows he is capable of beating the big boys and there is no reason to believe he cannot carry that on.

Whatever happens, there is no doubt that the Hammers are in good hands with Moyes at the helm. Watch this space.
