A top West Ham source has revealed to Claret & Hugh today how a loan star, who was believed to have no future at the London Stadium, could return next season.

Speaking to us this morning, the club’s top source broke the news that Flynn Downes could indeed have a future at West Ham.

It was thought that there was no way back for Hammers fan Downes following his loan spell at Southampton, however, now there seems to be a route back.

Whilst the club would not comment on whether Downes’ return was dependent on Irons manager David Moyes departing, it’s safe to assume that Flynn won’t return if the manager remains.

There have been times when the squad has missed the qualities of midfielder Downes, particularly when it became clear that the loan signing of Kalvin Phillips had been a massive error.

I for one would welcome the return of the former Ipswich and Swansea midfielder and believe that he’d do well under different management.

It would be nice to give him a proper chance (and not just stuck out on the wing where Moyes exiles his least favored players). Maybe he’ll only turn out to be a squad player, but it’s invaluable to have players in the squad with that level of commitment to the club.

No effin’ way…..he is not good enough and never will be

So you reckon Phillips did a better job than Downes would have done? He’s fitter, he’s match sharp but most importantly he’d actually WANT to play for us. And he wouldn’t flip a finger a fan.

  • Dave says:

He would be lot better than Phillps

    • Trevor says:

So how many England caps do you think Downes will get?

      • John simmonds says:

How many more do you think Phillips will get?
How many goals has Downes given away
How many reds has Downes had? In a whole season not 4 or 5 games. Phillips is a busted unfit flush

Downes wasn’t given a chance by Moyes . And when he got the odd game he was played out of position. I even remember him playing as a number 10 .

      • Dave says:

How many more do you think Phillips will get?

      • John simmonds says:

Probably none . But how many did William Arthur Bonds get. And he was no slouch. Was he now. They named a stand after him

    • Graham says:

So would my mum and she’s been gone 12 years.

  • Trevor says:

No effin’ way!! Flynn will never be a top level Prem player. Can you see him playing for Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs, Man United, Chelsea, Newcastle or Villa?? … NO.
So why is he good enough for us?

Deep anger at the prospect of this story being true.

  • Colin says:

Comments like those have been rife about many younger players over many years, and in a lot of cases they have come back and bit the perpetrators right on the backside, everybody loves a know it all, and loves them more when their made to look stupid.!

  • David Walton says:

In my view Downes is better than Soucek whose time with us is done.

  • Ronny says:

How about comment on Zuma he has been a joke can’t walk let alone run he is terrible and has to go it’s embarrassing watching him
