CandH Exclusive: Oggy gets encouraging news

Oggy has had some encouraging news from the club.

Ogbonna-West HamThe central defender’s current form could easily land him a new deal even in his advancing years! The long time Hammers servant will be 36 year old next May but the club are looking keenly at his form and remain very impressed when he was faultless at the back and a big contender for man of the match, notably against the Gooners.

Now, with Zouma regularly injured and Afcon intervening in the case of Aguerd, the ItalianĀ  has a big chance to see his Hammers career extended by another 12 months as has been the case with Lukasz Fabianski .

Ok, keepers go on for longer than outfield players in general but Oggy is now returning to the form he showed before suffering a major injury against Liverpool in the November of the 1920/21 season. His contract runs out at the end of the season with the club probably offering him a new one in 2023 as a grace and favour move following his long absence.

However, talking to a key source this morning the club are very pleased they did, given the problems which have arisen at central defence this term. And there remains a possibility that he will be offered a new one year deal in the summer.

Our source explained to us exclusively: “He is a great fourth choice and a great person. We will review at the end of the season but there is a possibility.”

Great servant to the Club and made a real contribution in the past week. But unless we’re defending the 18 yard box for most of the match, he needs to play alongside players with pace as he’s not as quick as he used to be.

Agree he has slowed down but I just love watching Oggie when he stands in. A great club man and for me a really good back up defender
