West Ham manager David Moyes is deciding whether to extend Pablo Zabaleta’s contract beyond the 30th of June when his contract expires. Reported to earn £70,000 per week that decision could cost the club £280,000 despite no guarantee of being used.
Ryan Fredericks is now fully fit and played aginst QPR on Wednesday while Ben Johnson has also returned to full fitness and can act as cover for Fredericks. Jeremy Ngakia has refused to extend his contract beyond the end of June and is thought to be no longer training with the first-team squad.
The Hammers have nine fixtures remaining in which ensure Premier League survival.
Zabaleta would be available for games against Wolves and Spurs but his contract will end the day before West Ham takes on Chelsea at the London Stadium. Moyes must decide whether or not to invest £280,000 to keep Zaba on for right-back cover.
Moyes is unlikely to extend the contract of Carlos Sanchez whose contract also ends on 30th June.
Tomas Soucez has already extended his loan to the end of teh Premier League season on 26th July.
Given the much bigger cost of relegation I think that we should keep him – he is a good influence in the dressing room – and we are not sure who will get injured during the last hectic 9 games – he can also fill in as a defensive midfielder if we need a calm head to close out a game
Just for 9 games, we have enough cover. Let him go.
