Declan Rice £46,000 offer explained

|

Several tabloids are today quoting a figure of a £46,000 per week offer for Declan Rice in a take it leave it ultimatum.

Both the Daily Mirror and Daily Star use the figure which is slighting misleading. The £46,000 total is made up of the £21,000 per week basic wage, £20,000 per Premier League start bonus and £5,000 per week increase after 15 Premier League starts.

£21,000 per week would net the 19 year old just over £1m gross pay in the next year, as there are only 38 Premier League games in a season the maximum Rice can earn in a year is £760,000 that is assuming he starts all of them, is not dropped, has no suspensions and/or injuries. Assuming Rice signs a new five and a half year contract over the International break the £5,000 per week increase would not kick in until the end of January when West Ham face Burnley away and again only if he plays all 15 games between now and then.

If Rice signs before the Premier League game against Spurs his pay will jump up from £3,000 to £21,000 per week, there are 30 Premier League games remaining meaning up to £600,000 is available for bonuses for the youngster.

Assuming Declan averages 30 Premier League starts per season therefore achieving the first 15 game increase he should be on the equivalent of £32,500 per week until the end of January £37,500 per week by the start of February and £42,500 per week at the start of next season.

Thats not that good a deal. How come Andy Carroll pockets £85,000 a week whether he plays or not. Declan should be looking for his basic of £45,000 a week, Bonuses and appearance money are only incidental and should not be confused with basic pay. We are going to lose him, make no mistake about it.
