Hot on the heels of earlier, conflicting reports over West Ham’s interest in defenders Wout Faes from Leicester City and Morata from ‘Forest comes an update suggesting the Hammers are also working on solving their left back issues to bring in reinforcements for Nuno today, having lost out on other key players.

Something of a step up in quality would be signalled by Roshane Thomas‘ update in the Athletic, claiming the West Ham are now looking to the Italian league for a defender:

Anass Salah-Eddine

“West Ham United have submitted an offer to sign Roma defender Anass Salah-Eddine on a season-long loan.”

Just for the uninitiated he’s an attacking left sided full back so he’d slot into the Diouf role. Getting that deal done by 11pm tonight would be a challenge indeed: Medicals and travels to London would surely take it down to the wire.

However, build in the ‘lag’ between these offers being made and subsequently reported – anything up to to 24 hours in some cases – and there’s still sufficient wiggle room for West Ham to get their deal over the line for  – whichever one of the defenders they end up signing!

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

In out..in out..shake it all about, what’s happening at our club, it’s a farce…clocks ticking, it will be to late to sign anyone soon, either permanently or on loan..specially as every player has to undergo a medical before any transfer can be signed off..West Ham will probably blame the NHS for that saying they couldn’t get an appointment.

Faes one of the worst Cb ever in the Prem the championship and now league one so i am sure he is a good fit for Nuno!

    Won’t Salah-Edinne also need a visa?

Funniest thing I read on another Italian site today is that West Ham have turned down an offer from Torino for Scarles. It can’t be true otherwise West Ham would immediately have purchased him a one way plane ticket to Turin! Likewise I don’t think there is much mileage in this one and the really scary one is Faes coming to the London Stadium which I fear is true. At this stage of the window most stories are either hot air or week old stories. Any that are true are normally for poor players such as Faes.

that “Faes’ story has been rubbished by one of our sources so keep your fingers crossed we bring in someone better….indeed, at 1300 it is now being reported as ‘on hold’ – hopefully!

Lets hope so, every time I see him play I’m just waiting for a key mistake
Surprised he’s had so many top flight games and Belgium caps honestly
