Jermain Defoe will have to put in a transfer request to push through any move to West Ham – and even then Sunderland may block it claims Simon Jones in the Daily Mail this afternoon.
Earlier today Slaven Bilic refused to dismiss speculation that West Ham are interested in the 34 year old saying:”He is a very good player of course, the way he is playing for Sunderland, the way he is scoring goals and his movements and everything has always been spot on. I have a few midfielders from different countries telling me his movement is the best from the strikers they play with. But he is a Sunderland player so I am not going to talk about it”
Yesterday an insider told us “There’s no incentive for Sunderland to sell a player who carries their survival hopes and Jermain’s people have cut a very clever deal.”
Defoe’s contract is understood to include a relegation clause which would allow him to walk away away for free if Sunderland are relegated from the Premier League.
Defoe and relegation – rings a bell somewhere….
According to exwhuemployee Defoe is keen to return and feels he has unfinished business at West Ham because he feels bad about the way he left the club and that he owes us…
If true then it would depend on what case he can make to Sunderland I guess or how determined he is to leave and how determined Sunderland were that he wouldn’t.
I can’t see him handing a transfer request in unless he was sure it would be accepted, he is surely old enough and wise enough not to make that kind of PR mistake.
Would we want Defoe back. He is 34 now .
He was not a very grateful character.
Not even Sunderland want him now.
A non league side might be interested in him though.
Good luck Defoe. You are a foe never a friend to the IRONS..
What cods
David Moyes seems to think differently about him john.Didnt he say he was pricelss to them.Im pretty sure there are not many Sunderland fans want him to go either!
