FA denies Paqueta probe claim

Suggestions that the inquiry into the Lucas Paqueta irregular betting allegations have been dropped  have been denied by the Football Association.

They arose after the Brazilian national team has called him up for matches on that basis and  Inside World Football  reported that the probe is over and he will not be charged.

In an article titled ‘Betting probe over, the manager Dorival Jr includes Lucas Paqueta in first Brazil squad’, IWF reported that  Paqueta was named in a new-look Brazilian squad for the friendlies against England and Spain at the end of March  after the English Football Association failed to charge him as part of a betting investigation.

However, Hammers News and Claret and Hugh have had it confirmed that is not the case with an official FA spokesman telling the former: “That article is factually incorrect.”

And our top source at the club confirmed that declaring: “Yes, the FA are still  investigating and deciding whether to charge him or not.”

There is no indication at this stage how much longer that will take but in previous cases it has dragged on for as long as 18 months
