Farewell and good riddance Mike Dean

‘I’ll miss it terribly’- referee Mike Dean on ’22 years at top’ – BBC Sport

There’s very little needs saying about Mike Dean!

It’s all been said and to put it mildly let’s simply add that he is poor – and the stats on his reds and yellows tell us more than we really want to know.

Since taking charge of his first Premier League game in September 2000, Dean has refereed 524 matches, showing 110 red cards and 1,927 yellow cards. Dean is the only referee to pass a century of red cards shown in the Premier League.

There are many examples of his awful decision making when handing out reds but there’s one West Ham fans will remember in particular when one of the most honest players in the League, Tomas Soucekm saw  red for brushing Aleksander Mitrovic in the game against Fuljham with absolutely no malicious intent.

It was a perfect example of how wrong the man can be and how, over and over again, he makes the game entirely about him,

At the time Jamie Redknapp declared on Sky Sports: “What is he seeing there? He goes over to the screen and still decides to give him a red card.

“He’s tried to get his arm out of the way. Mitrovic has tried to grab him, and he lifts his arm to get it out of the way, and completely by accident he catches him. What is football coming to when we give that as a red card? Even the players can’t believe it.

As has been the case before and since the red card was overturned on appeal leaving us frustrated and annoyed at how he could make such a decision in the first place.
Mow as he approaches the end of his final season he has spoken about how much he will miss the game.
Can’t say the same!
