FC Astra v West Ham Live reporting

|

Teams:  FC Astra: Lung, Alves, Seto, Enaach, Budescu, Moaris,Bolderin, Gamon, Teixeiera,Quieros, De Amorin

WEST HAM; Randolph, Jenkinson, Nolan, Maiga, Poyet, Henry, Lanzini, Lee, Page, Cullen, Knoyle

As expected the manager has opted for a virtual reserve team and with the temperatures at 37 Centigrade this is a test and a half for our boys.

1/Astra corner but Randolph collects with ease

HAMMERS GOAL 3. Well flighted LanzinI free kick deflected for corner – half ceared but LanzinI drivs in off post – Fantastic start

Hammers look really up for this as the kids strut their stuff in front of Slav who is watching form the stands following his Boleyn sending off

10: Bolderin tries his luck from distance but deflected for a corner and cleared

14 Astra getting onto the front foot and a long distance free kick fools Randolph but rebound off the woodwork. Shocking error of judgement.

17. Poyet leaves his foot in on a challenge with Alves and is lucky to escape a yellow

20: No real cutting edge from the Irons but the youngsters are playing it around well and build well down the right before Knoyle overhits his cross

26: Astra corner on the right but the fierce in swinging kick is somehow cleared away

28: Henry concedes free kick withtackle flom behind 25 yards out well cleared

31: ASTRA GOAL: Some poor defending allows Budescu to line up a 20 yard shot – well struck and Randolph has no chance

35: ASTRA GOAL Budescu strikes again from inside the area – he’s been left alone to drive home from a well cut back ball and the Irons are behind on the night.

39: Great Lanzini ball in and Nolan header is wide

HALF TIME : Astra 2 Irons 1

Summary: It was never going to be easy whichever team the manager had put out but the young Irons on display have never been outplayed or overawed. Budescu’s double within a couple of minutes looked a killer but in fairness to the Hammers they kept going and although they created few chances played plenty of football. The big plus is Manuel Lanzini who of course grabbed the opening goal and looked dangerous and tricky whenever he was on the ball.

Nothing really changed with Astra’s second goal as the Irons were always going to need another anyway to cancel out the two away goal advantage the Romanians gained in the first leg.

Second half is underway

48: Low free kick delivered from Astra’s lift, Bolderin arrives but can only balloon over

50. Poyet’s crunching half way line tackle sets the Hammers moving forward but Maiga’s volley flies wide although  flag up for offside

Hammers moving forward well and a quick passing movement as they advance on goal again draws the offside flag against Maiga

Michael Owen pulling no punches in his assessment of Modibo Maiga’s input describing him as “pretty poor” and having been outrun by Elliot Lee on the BT Sports commentary.

64: Some fine possession football from the Hammers as they up the tempo but at the end of an intricate passing move Knoyle totally over hits his cross and the danger passes.

72: Lanzini corner but headed wide

77: Curling left foot cross cum shot heads for top corner but Randoph does well to turn it away one handed

78 Lanzini gets on the end of decent move and fires in a shot which Lung goes low to save

LEE OFF – JORDAN BROWN ON

81: Fine Randolp save thwarts Alves snapshot from around 18 yards

84. Cullen hacked down but Lanzini’s left sided free kick cleared

88: Quick break and ball into box where Maiga controls well before knocking over

90: Romanians brak and ball flies across goal where it’s crashed against upright by Alibret

It’s over and we’re out

FULL TIME FC Astra 2 Irons 1

Summary: No question about it we were the better team on the night as we were at the Boleyn. The kids did themselves huge credit and there’s no question every single one of them will have grown up big time. They gave it the lot but just didn’t create enough. Page and Cullen did really well but Lanzini was the man of the match for the Irons. Many will blame the manager  for his team choice and that’s a perfectly justifiable point of view but lets not be too discouraged, these lads of ours are a very good bunch of players

If you aint got BT.Im using stream 3 😉

  • Bob The Iron says:

Maiga needs to be taken to the vet & put out of his misery!

  • Vic Hammertime says:

He is absolutely diabolical Bob.God knows how he still plays.I read someone said earlier he looks a different player. No,just the same crap player. He will never be anything different.

  • Stingray Stewart says:

I was going to say he will probably score. But then thought that is too much of a fantasy, lol, sooner we can get him offthe payroll the better.Terrible player.Even if a miracle did happen & he scored we still need to unload him soon as.Someone else can teach him the offside rule, lol 😉

  • Sam Official says:

I see the error of my ways. I can see the West Ham way clearly now

  • bubs says:

Take Magia and Nolan off its not fair on the others playing with 9 men,
    Give the boys a chance

    • Stingray Stewart says:

Looks like you got a comedian sat above you bubs.Dont split your sides laughing mate.Just a rogue wetpant or scouser probably 😀

  • Stingray Stewart says:

Maiga is dreadful.Any of the kids deserve a chance in front of him.Brown for a start.I dont blame the kids, send them to do a mans job aint easy 😉

  • bubs says:

    Official twot
We never learn how many times have we given Magia a chance

  • SlimJim says:

Not many more though.Once we are out of this he will be history as far as first team football is concerned. He is awful,i mean really awful. Its like he doesnt understand the offside rule.Unbelievable!!

  • Radai Lama says:

Dont forget lads, half of our amazing fans will be pleased with this result if we go out. They will be in the streets celebrating us losing 😉

  • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

I am not watching it just checking for updates, sounds awful though and from the web as though we have most of the posession but both goals would have been avoidable if we had defended better ?

    • DJHammer says:

From an attacking point of view it was a great first goal for them.

The attacker steps away from Henry by five or so yards, Henry didn’t react quickly enough to close down, so Astras striker turns and shoots low and hard away from the outstretched hands of Randolph.

If Maiga could have done that for us we’d have won the game.

      • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

Thanks for reply DJ definitely true about Maiga, I am not sure how he gets a game, lets hope the first team can turn it on against the gunners otherwise could be a rough week for Slav.

  • Sam Official says:

This result is worse than the one at Nottingham Forest…. so far.

  • bubs says:

Good job sub Lee and leave the dead wood on the pitch, come on Brown give it a go boy,
Come on hammers you can still do this,

  • salesb says:

I think I finally understand what the West Ham way is, it’s when everything signals towards things turning round and looking up, and then letting you down worse than before. It’s about teaching you that life is cruel and to always expect the worst

    • SlimJim says:

Lol,we have a load of kids playing.Aint even played the full first team together yet.Hold your horses before you jump off a cliff, lol

      • salesb says:

Yes but when the statement a couple weeks back was aspirations to actually go on and win the europa league (optimistic I know, but that was the statement given), getting booted out during the third round of qualifying is an absolute poor attempt no matter what the excuses are. Embarrassing to say the least

  • SlimJim says:

Another good point if there are any.People might stop hammering on about bloody Lee being given a chance in the premier. He aint good enough as most people knew!!

  • bubs says:

Great we our out and it was all Lee,s fault,
And Nolan can leave with his integrity
Just hope we win on Sunday or a few are going to look stupid,
Well done all the young lads that gave it a go,
Just another 10 years to wait

    • boys of 66 says:

      Hows it Lees fault bubs?

    • Chicken Runner says:

Lol,well what we expected to happen happened bubs, the kids got some valuable experience though,it aint all bad.As Rad said, remember half our fans are happy tonight. They wanted us out, because they are sad cases 😉

  • boys of 66 says:

Good to see Gobyac on pants being a Sammerette. There again we all know he is a total kn*b.

  • rugbyirons says:

Nolan.at fault in part for both goals. Great experienced player.not tonight

  • Chicken Runner says:

66 do you really expect anything different. If we had gone through he would have been nowhere to be seen.As soon as we lose he appears with his pathetic comments. He is just a sad attention seeking cnut!!

  • pabloonechop says:

not really sure what the point of that was!? We get into it, struggle in the last round, now embarass ourselves then decide the PL is more important after all? The fair play thing is a joke particularly as we have had so many reds, and we have just proved it to be so.
Seriously need some goals and make the point again that in selling Downing we are seven goals light on last year. Remain worried.

  • Muckracker says:

l wonder how many more matches Bilic will throw during the course of this season when he deems it expedient for whatever reason. Thought we were better than that now

  • billy hammer says:

Bit nof a difference to be fair Muck.Sending a load of kids out to Romania because we have a big match sunday isnt going to suddenly mean we will throw prem games ffs, lol. If you remember from the get go Gold said we would play the fringe players, youngsters & players in need of some fitness run-outs in the matches.Well that is exactly what has happened so i dont get all the surprise going on 😉

  • DJHammer says:

Yes it was another defeat, another game where we don’t hold onto the lead.
However, those young Hammers gave it their all.
They can hold their heads high as they were brave in possession and didn’t resort to hoof ball unnecessarily.

For me the biggest difference between the teams was

    A) Physicality inferior,
    B) Game intelligence lacking in the final third.
    C) We fielded a side that has never played a competitive game before and Astra fielded a more balanced, settled side.

Bottom line, the best TEAM won, simples!

  • billy hammer says:

Exactly, this team knocked out Lyon last year. The kids held their heads up high.Dont get all this wetpants mentality. The kids lost in Romania, not our full first team.Give it a rest guys.

  • SA Bubbles says:

Not happy at all. Just because we got the GUNNERS away on Sunday doesn’t mean we have to rest the whole bloody first team. This was our big chance to atleast get into the group stages. The guys that played tonight wasn’t your fault. you where totally thrown into the deep end. And guys leave young Lee alone ,you want to have a pop at somebody ask the boss what tonight was all about .

  • Stingray Stewart says:

Whats to ask.He sent a load of kids & fringe players to play in the europa as Gold said would happen & someone mentioned above.Has everyone suddenly had brain fade & forgotten, lol 😉

  • chelthammer says:

Very disappointed with Bilic, almost certain we will be doubly disappointed when the team we left behind lose to Arsenal.
We get into Europe once every 10 years and he throws it away – not happy.
It would have been a great send off to UP if we had got to the group and had some decent European games to watch.
35000 fans have turned up to watch us in Europe, how many would have bothered if they knew Bilic did not care
Cannot understand the mentality of throwing cup games, in reality they are the only silverware we have any chance of getting. How many would prefer us not to make top 6 in case we have to play in Europe again.
    Stupid decision !

  • Muckracker says:

Well done the kids. lts just the idea of sending them out to war that rankles me. Bit like hanging them out to dry. Too much respect for the Arsenal

  • slaven a laugh says:

the planning behind this debacle is to blame. I can’t blame the kids who played tonight. The management team have gone down several pegs in my estimation though. looks like I won’t get to see one last great European night at Upton Park after all. Massive dissapointment.

  • SA Bubbles says:

Stingray Stewart if this was there little tactic of resting players its just gone up in Smokes . A normal working class man works 8 hours day 40 hours week and our first team cant even play 180 min of football a week, unbelievable.

  • canchaz says:

    Too much too soon?
Was everyone from Gold down just expecting too much. A new manager, a host of new players and only a few weeks to sort the ‘wheat from the chaff’.
But there is a positive here. Slav’s strategy of bringing in attacking midfielders got a boost , as the new boys brought in, chipped in more than their fair share of goals.
Now all his focus can be on proving this strategy to be right. We might get a glimpse of this on Sunday, win or lose.

  • Tr3nt says:

Just saying to all the people who are mad about West Ham not having the final Boleyn season be in the Europa league, I have to ask would you rather play his final season in Europa or play the first season in the Olympic stadium in the championship?

  • bubs says:

Chicken I was being sarcastic because slimjim was blaming Lee and having a pop at me because I have championed Lee for a chance in the first team,
But he was not a fault to night
Magia should have his contract paid off along with Nolan
We could have sent Alfitano, Jarvis and Samulsun they won’t be playing Sunday,
Never mind the cowards will be happy tonight,
God bless you Cordon,Rednapp and Hippo happy now

  • Muckracker says:

I wonder which seer decreed Championship football for us if we dare do well in Europe. Any idea Tr3nt?

  • Radai Lama says:

Ahhh,we are out.End of story.European adventure is over.Bring on the Gooners sunday.I aint ready to go into meltdown, lol 😉

  • bubs says:

You have great trust in our team Tr3nt,so far hardly any first team players have played in Europe just how the management had planed so what’s that got to do with the premier,
And if Watford,Leicester,Bournemouth,Sunderland,Newcastle,Palace WBA or Villa are above us at the end of the season I will give up as a fan for life,
We will be in the top 10 or above easy

  • pacojones says:

Alright boys me again, how’s the Europa League treating you? Let me just check BBC football………….. You’ve just be knocked out by who?FC fücking Astra, who in sweet Jesus are they? West Spam are not only an embarrassment to the Prem, they’re an embarrassment to Blighty as well as Phil Mitchell. Don’t be too downhearted lads,I had you lot down for relegation, now you’re out of the Europa you’ve got a slim chance of staying up,every cloud ay lads, every cloud. Looks like Mirallas is going to sign a new contract with the mighty Toffee’s,your day goes from bad to worse. Anyhow,I must go, it’s that time of year when the Jones’s dust off our passports ✈️ and pack the suncream, as we’re off to LA tomorrow. • essexclarets says:

Oh hahhahaha you are soooooo funny. Have a nice break son, if you stop off at a book shop at the airport remember to pick up the ‘comedy for dummies’ book.

    • Radai Lama says:

Paxo has serious mental health issues, simple as!!

  • bubs says:

We should not have a problem Rads we kept back 16 players and you can add Lanzini and
Cullen to that, shame Jarvis ,Alfitano and Samulsun won’t play football this week probably joined by Burke and Oxford,

  • bubs says:

Have a good holiday scouser, the relegation battle will be tight for you this year,
What you going to watch Gerrard play and dream he might comeback and play for you,
Don’t forget to pack the toffees, should keep your mouth busy for 5 min,
Don’t tap up the trolley dollies to much don’t want you joining the mile high club with Jerry or Tim but dim,
No realy have a good one don’t get mugged

  • essexclarets says:

Well that european adventure didn’t last long did it..!! A girlfriend once said to me that great things come in small packages 😀
not happy we are out before the season has even started but we are, no point wasting time moaning about it all night. I really wanted great european nights under the lights as a fitting farewell to the BG. It will have to be great european nights at the OS next season.

  • Radai Lama says:

Could be worse Essex, you could be a retard flying to LA 😉

    • pacojones says:

I saw a load of cockney window lickers on the bus today, not sure if they were retarded,or if it was down to the amount of people crammed into vehicle due to the tube strike. Radai, were you named after the rheumatoid arthritis help site? Is you mother a sufferer due to all the hand jobs she handed out to the GI’s during the war?

  • essexclarets says:

Wouldn’t mind the flying to LA bit Rads.

  • Radai Lama says:

Yeah but you might be unlucky enough to be sat next to Paxo the retard 😉

  • Slavs Mafia says:

Does Hugh ever actually read his own site.Maybe if he did he could block foul-mouthed fans from other teams who talk rubbish.Sort it out Hugh for god sake!!!!!
