Former Hammer career stalls in Germany

|

Reece Oxford’s football career has stalled in Germany as he has played just eight times all season for Augsburg.  German outlet Kicker claims Augsburg were keen to loan him out in last month’s transfer window.

Oxford was set for a loan move to struggling Dutch side VVV Venlo but an offer failed to materialise. Luton Town were also reported to have made contact over a loan as well but nothing came of it.

It is now claimed that Oxford could yet “collect game time” in the Regional League, which is Germany’s fourth division.

Oxford was sold by West Ham to Augsburg last summer for £2.1m with most of the money being paid in agent fees and compensation for the player who was forced to take a drop from the £20,000 per week he enjoyed with the Hammers.

Oxford joined West Ham Academy U13’s after a spell at Spurs youth. He made eight first team league appearances for the Hammers and was loaned out to Reading, Borussia Monchengladbach and Augsburg before his permanent move

This is the result of paying an immature kid £1m a year. Very sad. It also led to Decclan Rice being offered a deal that nowhere near reflected how good he is. If only the club had owners who have a clue. We’re lucky Dec stuck around.

Many would’ve put Big money on it that Reece was going to have a MASSIVE future ahead of him, with earlier comparison’s to Rio there seemed to be no stopping him.
MOST of us supporters will still be wondering what went wrong???
But in truth, it is probably much simpler than that and more to do with personality than anything else. His talent is undoubted, but his mind probably wasn’t strong or mature enough. The perfect example (and quite rare these days) is Declan Rice. Grounded, mature and of strong character with an unquenchable thirst to learn and win in equal measure.
For Reece, it was more about acting the part. Billic felt he had to send him out to Germany, out of the spotlight to grow up…….. and the rest, as they say, is history. Some make it……….and some don’t.

Just shows you how agents are not only killing the game but in this case they’ve completely f***** up a brilliant young players career

The Cat said it all. Potential is just that. Rice met the bar.
