Former Hammer close to hitting rock bottom

|

It’s reasonable to assume why we are still following the misfortunes of a certain Reece Oxford who is being reported as set for a decline into the FOURTH tier of German football.

Two reasons!

O it serves as a reminder of what can happen when you expect too much too soon from youth products and why many are sent on loan to gain first team football on a regular basis

and

O demonstrates that even those considered the best of their generation should be not handed huge amounts of money and talked up as first team prospects and major targets for top six clubs.

The Oxford experience – after being handed a £20k a week pay packet as a young teenager – has much to do with Declan Rice remained – perhaps unfairly -on Academy wages – with the club being maybe being over zealous in giving him the rise his agents wanted.

It was all something of an over reaction given Oxford experience and shows just how important it is to be entirely cautious with such young guys.

Things are now being reported as going from bad to worse after the 21yr old people failed to make the grade at relatively humble Bundesliga side Augsburg.

The Sun – which in fairness has followed his career closely since his arrival in Germany – is now reporting he faces the prospect that plunge into Germany’s FOURTH tier.

Oxford, 21, has played just eight times all season having joined the club on a six month loan spell at the start of 2019.

Kicker claim Augsburg were keen to loan him out in last month’s transfer window and at one time he was linked with a  loan move to struggling Dutch side VVV Venlo. Luton Town made contact over a shock deal.
