Former Hammer of year named manager

AFC Bournemouth have appointed former Hammer Scott Parker as their new head coach after he left his post at Fulham by mutual consent.

The 40-year-old three-time winner of Hammer of the year has put pen to paper on a three-year contract at the Vitality Stadium and replaces Jonathan Woodgate who leaves following the expiration of his contract this week.

“I believe this is the perfect fit for both parties,” Parker told AFCBTV.

“I’m familiar with Bournemouth because of my relationship with Harry Arter. It’s a football club I know well from watching him over the years.

Parker joined the Hammers in 2007  for a £7 million transfer fee from Newcastle United. In 2008–09, Parker played a major part of West Ham’s season and on 24 May 2009 was voted Hammer of the Year, by the club’s supporters and became the first player since Julian Dicks in 1997 to retain the award after winning again in 2010. In 2011 he handed in a transfer request later to join Spurs in return for a £5.5m transfer fee.
