Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud insists his scorpion kick is a more worthy January of the month goal than Andy Carroll’s scissor kick wonder goal.
The France striker, 30, said: “Andy Carroll’s goal is magnificent, but maybe people won’t remember it in two years’ time.”
Giroud earned big praise for his effort against Crystal Palace two months ago – only to be outdone by Carroll’s effort for West Ham against the same opponents.
Giroud, said: “I don’t want to big myself up, but goals like mine leave a mark on history because they’re rare.
“There’s been [former PSG midfielder] Charles Edouard Coridon and Zlatan Ibrahimovic before me.
“Mine, yes. It’s like Zlatan’s improbable overhead kick against England or Marco Van Basten’s volley, goals I would have liked to score.”
Brings to mind an old music hall song : ” Why does everybody call me Bighead”
He has a point though.I mean China Dolls was perfectly executed technically but Girouds no matter how much luck was involved will still always be rerun for years to come.
I thought it was the dogs.I mean give him a break 66 he cant help being French 😂
Thats me not getting on the Eurostar anytime soon 😁
Yes i think Girouds was a bit special, clearly luck was involved but the fact is he scored what was a rarely seen type of goal.
Carrols was superb but we will see a load more scissor kick goals over time,im not sure the Giroud type goal will be seen many more times compared.
Over my old timer years of watching football i have seen many scissor kicks, not many if any Giroud jobbies until him and Mikitaryan did similiar.
Hit & Hope v Precise Technique. I know which one I think is better.
And sorry, but hasn’t there already been another Giroud stylie hit & hope this season? Mkhitaryan? So not so rare…
