Gunners performance was the best yet, says Gold

|

Gold arms up in airDavid Gold has hailed the victory over Arsenal as “the best display by a West Ham team” during his and David Sullivan’s reign at Upton Park.

The club’s co chairman realised during the 2-0 win over the Gunners that he was watching the birth of a very decent team and, pushed for an assessment by ClaretandHugh, told us exclusively: “I’d have to say it was our best  performance during my time here.

“We were out there playing against £20m, £30m and £40m players and beating them by the quality of our football. It was fantastic to watch.

“There have probably been more important games, and the play-off final will live in our memories forever. The win over Spurs at White Hart Lane was fantastic – but the Arsenal game and performance was very special.

“It was the first game of our last Boleyn season. We needed to start well but my assessment is made on the basis of the display – it was tremendous.”

Not my best but up there,
Beating any London club is good but 3 wins in one season over the Spuds will need some beating,
The thing about this one is its the first game in a very important season and if we can add a win this week to it anything could be possible this year,
Fukc Barton get our forward this week,

West Hams Three wins over Spurs was far superior ..
Against Arsenal We were in better condition and it fell our way because of our will to win .
    Long may it continue .
Some body please control David Gold’s tweets .

Kevin you have not commented on Barton ?
The victory over Man City was better to when the season before they ripped us a new bun

Those wins over Spurs man city and Chelsea were better. But hey beggars can’t be choosers.

  • Vintage Claret says:

If he didn’t like what he was seeing for the last four years why didn’t he do something about it sooner ?

  • rugbyirons says:

Has Gold asked Allardyce if he can make such comments? BFS pulled the strings. If he didn’t like what he was seeing by didn’t he change it sooner.

    • Hammerman6 says:

That’s harsh, BFS was under contract and costly to get rid of. I am sure they got shot as quick as viably possible. The board new what the fans thought of him and I really believe they would have loved to get rid sooner.
He’s gone now, and also gone very quiet, lets let it stay that way.

Rugby it’s time to leave the past behind us.I don’t like Allardyce to this day.We are moving forward in a way which not many of us foresaw. We have set ourselves up for a cracker season.Kevin is right about Gold’s tweets but at the end of the day he is the gaffer.Yes Hammerman6 I agree.I have always said the owners didn’t want to give Allardyce any room to manoeuvre legally.Good riddance I say.

I don’t know if it can be classed as the best, but given the circumstances – not the best pre-season, poor Europa performances etc, it was a vital one. I wasn’t about to get carried away if we’d lost, expected to. I was one of those that felt the chances of getting anything out of the game were slim so we should have sent a stronger squad to Romania. But……what made this special was seeing the fight and unity in the team, that’s something that’s been missing for some time. And also for the first time in a while, I couldn’t actually pick any individual as having a bad game. Nothing but positives. For me, the test now comes in continuing the same level against Leicester; I figured 6 points from our first 4 games was best we could hope for, now we should be aiming at 9, or why not 12?

Definitely one of the top few, beating spuds with Ravel tearing them apart lives long in the memory. Maybe though as a complete team performance with every player being 8 out of 10 or above this was our best performance, this gooner team is a lot stronger than the Spuds were and unlike the spuds this team believed they would be winning the title !!!

Have to say that the 3-0 win over Tottenham has to rank right up there, given how poorly we had been playing up to that point.

  • mattefumi27 says:

ahah… what a short memory many people have… I much prefer West Ham – Hull City from two years ago… That was superb.. loool 😀
