David Gold’s daughter Jacqueline has entered the debate on standing on social media – controversially suggesting supporters should sit down to obtain the license to increase the capacity to 60,000 then 66,000, then hinting they can do what they want afterwards.
Speaking on her private twitter account, the CEO of Ann Summers wrote to her 56,000 followers “For goodness sakes, it’s not rocket science – sit on the seats, get the licence – do what you like #COYI”
Yesterday her father appealed to fans tweeting “We won’t get a licence for 66k and have the biggest capacity in London if we stand. If you love West Ham sit down dg”
Gold entered in dialogue with many fans both for and against standing insisting “I’m not ‘telling’ you to sit, I’m asking you to sit until we resolve the issues of safe standing. dg” adding that “Rail seating (safe standing) has not yet been approved by the authorities in England. dg”
Gold pleaded once again for common sense saying “I am not telling you to sit but in the best interest of your club I’m ‘asking’ you to sit during the game. dg”
On the topic of other Premier League grounds which turn a blind eye to standing he said “History shows that at most PL grounds, standing is tolerated where there is no complaints from sitting fans. dg”
Gold emphasised that the situation will not go away saying “The Safety Advisory (Group), set up by Newham Council, has deemed that 57,000 will remain the figure in place as long as the standing continues. dg”
I am glad she said it, poor thing will no doubt get a load of flak for it, once we have the license we can sort out the problem in the meantime the wannabe standers should work with the club on identifying an area or areas where they will be allowed to congregate much like at UP.
Been twice to the New stadium. Hated it both times. Fans in other teams shirts, poor views, awful policing and stewarding, but worse of all fans standing up and causing fights with those who quite rightly have paid their money and want to be able to see the actual game going on.
I have seen plenty of fights kicking off, saw one fan head-butt another because his kid was in floods of tears as he could not see the game and the fans standing up did not care and refused to sit. Sadly saw plenty of other kids upset as they could not see.
One of my mates takes his 9 and 10 years old’s. Both do not want to go again as they cannot see the action due to persistent standers.
Even saw two woman have a massive cat fight because of the standing issue.
Those who insist on standing are upsetting others, including kids, women and OAP’s. They are creating a venomous atmosphere and things are only going to get worse.
For Christ sake, sit down and be fair to those around you. If you want to stand then go follow a team where standing is allowed, at very least until the situation is properly sorted.
Got to agree with stinger, but I’ve been once,to the Juve game atmosphere and sight perfect, ii was in the east stand no fighting but stewards abused through the first half. Only 2 people carried on with childish behaviour. COYI
Well me & my sprogs have been to all the home matches.Seen little to know trouble & my lads love the place.I said before maybe I was lucky. But no my mates & their kids have had no probs either.
I think she should stick to flogging dildoes!
Unhelpful Mike and the sort of uneccessary abuse that inflames the situation
Sorry Hugh, I couldn’t resist such an easy target – I wish you had a delete button!
