Hammer signs for Championship side

|

MartinChampionship side Burton Albion have signed Martin Samuelsen on-loan from West Ham until the end of the season.

Manager Nigel Clough said:  “He plays a variety of forward positions. We nearly got him at the start of last season and have kept an eye on him. He had a successful loan spell out at Peterborough in League One. It didn’t quite work out for him on loan at Blackburn, but he has got himself fit after an illness in the summer and he’s raring to go and will bring something a bit different in the forward positions.”

Clough says Samuelsen’s versatility will also be an asset. “He’s more a midfielder or wide man but he can play up front. He’s 6ft 2 and a skilful player. He’s very comfortable on the ball and his main strength is his creativity. He will go straight into the squad for Saturday. We have brought him in to be involved. He was on the bench last night for West Ham and now he wants to come out and play some football.”

Samuelsen told the Burton club website: “I’m delighted to be here, and I can’t wait to get out playing. I’m an attacking player I like to score and assist goals and do the hard work. It will be a really good learning curve to see this side of the game here and do the graft. Every player wants to play and I’m going to do my best when I get the chance and train hard.”

“All the players seem to be really nice and I know some of them from before, so it has all been good so far.

“Integration is a huge thing as you need to get on with your teammates in order to play well for them. Off the pitch is as important as on the pitch. My name might not be English, but my playing style is. I have learnt a lot from the English game.  have played for all the teams from under 15s to under 21s and got to play for the senior international team last year. It was three friendlies and one World Cup qualifier where I scored. That was part of my dream, not my ultimate goal, but whatever happens now I have scored for my country.”

“The manager asked me if I thought I could come and play in this team and I saw the game and thought this was something I could do. It’s an honest bunch of lads and I want to be part of that.”

Big fan onf Sameulsen is great in the ball & a creative player still only 20 I worry about this loans bc Burton are 22nd in Championship so relegation battle so hopefully will use him right but would think a mid table club or promotion pushing club would suit him better.
But mgr knows his creative qualities from interview I read & hopefully he won’t be wasted bc first loan was great but last 2 didn’t tho has contract till 2020 could be a big loan for him.
So hopefully he starts & they play system that he can work well in been great as LW but can pkay #10 and RW too.
He is a play maker & can change games I wish the best for him & really believe if he gets some regular game time & maybe bulka up some could make it with us in PL. Wanted to see him in FA cup games was screaming for his style

    Agree with you JRS.
I hope he has a better time than he did last season, and I sus0pect he will. At the end of last season he was put on a body building weights program, and I think it helped him this year. He was able to hold the ball and sheild it instead of continuously running with the ball. He also has been passing it when necessary.
I like him playing behind and around the striker, like he does with Martinez, and that’s why I also wanted him to play in the FA cup as a partner for Martinez.
Fingers crossed he does well and returns to us a real asset.

I really rate Samuelson and was expecting him to be breaking into the first team squad by now. I would hate for him to get disillusioned and leave before we get to see what he can do for us on the big stage.
