Hammers aim for two signings before window closes

|

West Ham are hoping to complete two signings before transfer deadline day despite the news that Marko Arnautovic is remaining at the club.

However, as reported elsewhere on CandH, they remain intensely keen on bring in Celta Vigo’s Maxi Gomez, and that could indeed happen before the window closes.

A senior Hammers source, talking to ClaretandHugh by e-mail -revealed that the club could swoop on a couple of unnamed players.

He said: “Nothing is certain of course but we move on and the hope is that we will make one big and one small signing before the window closes.”

The Guardian has since reported that the Gomez talks are continuing and that a deal could be struck which allows Celta Vigo to have him back on loan to kelp with the relegation struggle in which they they are involved.

That would solve the immediate signing difficulty of a player whom Manuel Pellegrini and director of football Mario Husillos has identified as the Arnautovic replacement.

Gomez has a £43.5 million release clause in his contract!

A big signing would be nice but listen don’t worry about the small one. Unless the small signing is a promising wonderkid for the future of course.

Gomez is more like a combination between Carroll and Arnie, a very physical forward, good in the air but with pace, he also works well coming in from the left, where Arnie works well coming in from the right, so it would be a two pronged attack that imho would frighten the life out of most PL defences.

Out of interest if one of these will be a striker is the other potential signing going to be a centre midfielder (to replace obiang?) or a fullback?
