Hammers beat Gooners in tale of the unexpected

|

West Ham 3 Arsenal 1

By Hughie Southon

It really was one of those “only West Ham nights” – a tale of the unexpected when you expect little other than a hammering.

West Ham were superb as they crashed three past the northern Londoners via an own goal from Ben White from a fine Bowen corner and two more from Mo Kudus and Jarrod Bowen.

Mohammed Kudus

To be honest it was easy with Arsenal rarely getting a shot on target and the Irons looking as though they had arrived from another planet after the shocking performances over the last three game,

Kudus’ goal early in the second half was magnificent, finding the net through Gabriel’s legs, after a  superb long range ball from Aguerd.

Bowen scored the next with a fine deflected shot which made the game safe after a fine ball in from Coufal.

The Hammers were entirely dominant and the only shame was that they failed to keep a clean sheet when Odegaard cut through the defence for a consolation in the last minute of extra time.

It truly was a great night for the Hammers who were on top throughout with all of them looking in tremendous form but special mention must be made of Paqueta, Kudus and Bowen.

It now looks impossible to leave the Ghana international out of the team such was his impact.

Now for Brentford – a game that truly matters!

After Everton if you wrote this as fiction it would be laughed at. This was West Ham! Bowen up front for me. Would have loved to see Mubama or Marshall dubbed on late for the experience. Not even selected.
