Hammers boss puts icing on top of great day

|

West Ham boss David Moyes has been talking to BBC Match of the Day and was justifiably enormously proud of the first ever Premier League win.

And to put the icing on the cake of a brilliant day he said that he believed that Mohammed Kudus had been at the club for a medical today although he wasn’t in a position to confirm how it had gone.

he Hammers were in superb form and it would be difficult to recall a better performance in recent months as thy won the game wit some degree of comfort apart from the last ten minutes or so when keeper Areola made two quite brilliant saves to safeguard the victory.

Afterwards the manager said he was thrilled with the three points because the Hammers had not won at Brighton for years.

And he added that today was a well deserved three points and although Brighton did a good job the squad done so also in other parts of the game.

He added: “Brighton have got an extremely good manager and his side are causing problems to plenty of teams, not just us. We worked hard on not getting picked off easily and we defended really well.

“Our counter-attacks were really good. Two or three years ago we were really good on the counter and we showed that. All the forward players had a really good contribution today.

On Edson Alvarez: “We know that he’ll get better as time goes on. He did a really good defensive job without the ball. Today was about coming away with points so I was really pleased for Edson. Tomas Soucek went off injured and we were losing bodies in the middle of the park.”

On starting Alphonse Areola: “I have got two number one goalkeepers and we just thought it was time to give Areola the opportunity. He had a couple of brilliant saves today and he had some great saves against Chelsea last week so long may it continue.”

On the signing of Mohammed Kudus: “I don’t want to talk about players who are not at my club yet but I do believe that he that he came in for a medical today but I couldn’t confirm at the moment how that went or anything else. What I do want is competition and thinking about pushing on again, having a go and playing against the top teams, trying to do well.”

“Hammers floor is yours, Mr Moyes”. Remember that post? It is early in the season so far, but that victory was a Moyes masterclass. He looks to be wiping that floor with you, Hugh! 🤣

So you’re now a fan of Moyes?? It was only 3 weeks ago that you wanted him sacked. I just hope that when we next hit a sticky patch you exercise better judgement.

It’s going to be a very long season, and it’s only early days, but David Moyes has already made some fabulous decisions.

Areola as the new #1 goalie – brilliant
Zouma as the new captain – perfect
Ward-Prowse and Alvarez – excellent additions
Kudus joining the club – hard to believe it’s actually happened!

I certainly have Hugh. I think the important thing is to learn from our mistakes. I recall you wanting him sacked several times last season before we won a trophy. Let’s get behind the team and manager.

Like Hugh I have been critical of Moyes, am delighted with everything about this win, and very pleased with the performance of the new signings. I still don’t like 21% possession play even though pleased when we do it so well. Btw one of the criticisms was not playing Areola as number one. Being above all an Irons fan I will always call it as I see it, not afraid to criticise.
