Hammers could make late move for Chelsea centre back

|
West Ham could get make a late move for Chelsea centre back Fikayo Tomori in the last four hours.
The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg points out that Rudiger staying at Chelsea means they could go into the season with five centre-backs with Tomori obvious one to go on loan and with Everton out the picture West Ham should be in for him.
Matt Law from the Daily Telegraph agrees adding that the knock-on of Rudiger seemingly staying is that Fikayo Tomori may be allowed out on loan.
Born in Calgary to Nigerian parents, Fikayo has represented both Canada and England at youth level. Mainly playing as a centre-back, Tomori can also play as a right-back.

Tomori joined Chelsea at the under-8 level and progressed through the club’s academy system, He was part of the Chelsea youth side which recorded back to back triumphs in both the UEFA Youth League and the FA Youth Cup in 2015 and 2016.

Tomori spent loan spells at Brighton & Hove Albion, Hull City and Derby County before his return to Chelsea in 2019.

Following the expiration of his loan, Tomori returned to Chelsea where he was given the No. 29 shirt. On 31 August 2019, Tomori made his first start for Chelsea against Sheffield United, which ended a 2–2 draw at Stamford Bridge. He scored his first goal for Chelsea on 14 September 2019, opening the scoring with long-range curler from outside the box, in a 5–2 away win over Wolves. He scored a header against former club Hull City to help Chelsea to a 2–1 win in the fourth round of the FA Cup at the KCOM Stadium on 25 January.

Weren’t West Ham linked with him months ago??
It would be ideal to get in another CB, someone versatile as 3 at the back looks to be this seasons winning ticket, it looks like the squad is unbalanced, with about a dozen attacking midfield/wingers, can’t we offer Anderson as a straight swap?

If they think signing a bloke who can’t get near the worst Chelsea defence in years on loan is going to deflect any of the flak coming their way they are HUGRLY mistaken yet again

Sorry does nothing for me, cant get into a Chelsea team and we decide to take him when we have good young players of our own. So disappointed with the inability to attract a top defender to the club – this is a panic decision the lad is not good enough.

We are not that attractive a club to young players looking for success and trophies. Perhaps prospective players read the comments on these so called fans sites and think “is it worth it?”

  • Grant says:

Makes no sense of Moyes saying centre backs are better when older and experienced. Sounds like Tomori would be a Sullivan desperation panic or opportunity signing rather than a moyes one.

  • TorreTim says:

He is ahead of Balbuena and Cressie for me so if we are playing a back 3 he is an improvement. Was called up for England 12 months ago. There are others I would have preferred but takes us forward this year.
