Spurs are in late talks with Swansea City to sign centre-back Joe Rodon in a deal worth £18m.
The player has been tracked by West Ham for some time and has been on their radar as one for the future.
Rodon impressed in the Championship last season, helping them reach the play-offs. The Welsh club does not want to sell one of its star players, but if a big enough offer came in, it would be hard to stand in the way.
West Ham are reported to have contacted the player and his representatives last month but decided they needed to reserve their limited transfer funds to players who can hit the ground running in the Premier League.
EXWHUemployee has admitted that he had sent the Swans defender name to David Sullivan and later read out his reply about the player on his West Ham Way podcast last month.
Ex reported: “Joe Rodon at Swansea. We had some enquires. I’m led to believe that we could get him for about £12-15m. Swansea are not in a good position financially and need to sell players. I sent that knowledge on to David Sullivan. And the response that I got from that was: ‘We know the player well, in a year he could be very good’.”
Lets just be honest. This has been an appalling transfer window.Well over a month to get things done and basically Coufal is our only signing. Now scrambling around like headless chickens and getting blown out of the water by everyone. What a way to run a business.
In terms of defenders I haven’t heard of many, if any, names that are better than we have already that warrant spending £20/25m on. I do agree with Moyes that spending that money on a player has to ensure an upgrade on what we have. Why do so many fans feel that buying X amount of players in the transfer window is the only way to ‘have a good transfer window’? We kept Rice, got a decent full back and got rid of some dross. The fact that that dross went for significantly less than their purchase price doesn’t make this a bad window, it makes the windows in which they were initially bought for vast sums bad windows. We paid MASSIVELY over the odds for Hugill and Ajeti , as we did for Anderson and, some might say, Haller. I don’t necessarily blame the owners for the last 3.
If, in January, we’re doing well in the league, perhaps a top player or two might fancy coming to us and we might have the cash to fund them. Right now, just coming out of a season where we were fighting relegation until the penultimate match and starting this one with 2 losses and a cup shellacking, we’re hardly an attractive proposition, unless fans want more mercenaries.
We’ve got a good squad, all of a sudden seemingly clicking and playing well. Let’s stop the constant negativity and enjoy the view from the top half of the table
Very well put Saul…agree entirely. .
