Dual Golden boot winner Ivan Toney could have been a Hammer had the club listened to Barry Fry!
The Peterborough director of football knows that the now £60 million rated striker could cause the lads big problems when he and Brentford arrive at the London Stadium on Sunday.
Talking exclusively to Claretandhugh Bazza told us: “Believe me, Ivan will be a threat in both boxes – be scores goals and was also my best defender at Peterborough and has been doing the same this season.
He won the Golden Boot at our place in League One and the Championship. Behind Stan Collymore and George Best – who played for me at Dunstable – he is the best I’ve had through my hands.”
Bazza had offered the player to West Ham whilst he was at Peterborough looking for £10 million but the Irons board didn’t think he would necessarily make the jump from Division One to the Premier League.
And Barry said: “I understood the point of view they took but he’s gone on to prove me right – the Hammers still need a striker and he has shown he could have done the job had they bought him.”
He added: “I really want the Hammers to win. I have so much time for the club and what Moyesie is doing there but they defence will know it;s been in a game with Ivan.”
Lets see how he does as people latch on to him.
Hindsight is great but who knows if we had signed him for 10m, he may not have developed the way in which he has. We have Antonio and I could not see Toney getting into the team ahead of Antonio. I still prefer Antonio over Toney any day so if Toney is worth 60m now what is Antonio worth !!
Good point. Value worth guess antonio age doesnt help. But take that out of the equation and ant far ahead in value. Toney fine but for me the proof is over a longer period. Thats all.
proved at league 1m championship 30 odd goals and now pl. Two golden boots
Hasnt proved in premier league yet. If hes going to start after sunday !
oh ok 61 goals in 99 games sounds reasonable to me buyt I expect you are right
