Hammer unhappy with contract offer

|

By Hughie Southon

Ben Johnson is ready to leave the club having been offered a contract which he is unlikely to accept.

Claret and Hugh understands that the Hammers-raised defender – along with Conor Coventry – will leave the club despite wanting to stay.

However, unless the Irons can find a suitable No 2 left back to Emerson in the window – with Cressie likely to leave – Johnson will remain until the summer as cover.

Our understanding is that Johnson – 24 in January – whilst being offered a deal, is unhappy with the terms and as a result will be available for transfer.

Everton are understood to be interested along with Southampton whilst Luton Town could show interest in the player given his versatility as a right and left back.

Coventry’s fate was known some time back and he too will be allowed to leave despite showing much promise in the few games he has played for the first team.

Good luck to Ben I always liked him, and remain convinced that Moyes messed his development by utilising him all across the back four without ever a consistent run in the side or even in one position. The hardest thing must surely have been being thrown in a either full back for one game then out again, and being judged on every appearance like that. Good luck Ben find a club manager who will play you consistently in one preferred position.

On reading the comment left before me…… I have to pose the question – Is there anything that David Moyes is not blamed for?

Just my opinion Buster. He may well be not good enough, and that’s that. I just don’t believe any of our current back four for example would show their best if played intermittently at either full back, centre back and even a go at DCM, in and out of the side as emergency cover. Some say he’s not good enough, I said good effort Ben.
