Hammers end interest in Defoe after rejection

|

PAY-Jermaine-Defoe-SunderlandWest Ham United have given up on their pursuit of Jermain Defoe, according to the Telegraph. Sunderland have held firm on their stance that the 34-year-old striker is not for sale, and have been undeterred by the Hammers asking them to name their price.

The Telegraph wrote “West Ham United are considering other transfer targets after failing in a second bid for Jermain Defoe and again being told by Sunderland that he will not be sold this January window.”

Jason Burt in the Telegraph spoke to David Sullivan who they quoted on the Dembele rumour which gives further credence that the the Defoe chase is over for now.

Sky Sports are repeating the same story are reporting “West Ham have given up on signing Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe, Sky sources understand. The Hammers had a £6m bid rejected for their former player last week and were considering a follow-up offer. But Sunderland are understood to have told them that he is not for sale in the current transfer window.”

I didnt think Sunderland would sell him.If they did they might as well admit they will be relegated. He is worth far more to them with Premier League money being thrown a round like confetti than anything we offered.
Im sure it wont stop fans from moaning that we didnt try hard enough & act like they know all the details of negotiations & monies offered.

I would prefer to see us go after Zaha in reality . Said it before and I’m saying it again . No good bashing on doors that won’t open . Alladyce could very well let him go . Palace need the money and we need a striker .

It was always a long shot.It would be suicide for Sunderland to sell.
I dont really get how fans can be bagging the club overr this.If you read some of them you would believe they were in on the process from start to finish. The reality is they are bagging the club based on nothing more than press releases & Sky Sports. How can a single one of them be so catergoric about what was offered or how hard we tried to get him. They know nothing, the same as all of us.

I’m pleased the decision has been taken out of our hands, disappointed we even considered him. Let’s go for players that have some chance of being made of the right stuff rather than those we know from first hand experience, aren’t..

If it’s true! It is right what people have said about backing Irons players and the fans remaining united however. I know we disagree (some of us) about Defoe etc but there is far more unites than separates us. We just need 11 Mark Noble clones that can play like the love-children of Payet, Obiang, Koyate & Cresswell, with the brain of Scott Parker and the heart of Paolo Di Canio. COYI!

Guess he’ll be having a reunion with the slug at Palace instead in January while we’re introducing our new star striker from Bolivia 🙂

Here we go again. So on Feb 1 it will be ‘We are really optimistic about the Loan deal for the 15 year old left back from Doncaster. We worked 24 hrs a day and were very close with our £Xm bid for Defoe but in the end it was refused’.

    Just love the TW.
