Hammers fans speak out on Haller

|

David Moyes has thrown down the gauntlet to SebastianHaller in whicjh he challenges the club’s record signing to show us he can adapt his game and become the player for which the club paid £45 million.

Here’s a random selections of the response to that from ClaretandHugh followers at  https://upload.facebook.com/groups/363174467150521/

  • Not much point in doing that Moyes, he’s too  lazy to pick it up!
  • Yarmo did more in the first minute he was on the pitch than Haller in the game.
  • If you play Haller then you have to adapt to what he needs
  • He useless and lazy, end of
  • Clearly doesn’t want to be at West Ham No movement, no effort, no interest. We all want him to succeed but, sadly, I can’t see things changing
  •  We all saw he was pretty useless mostly isolated in front of a 5-4-1, but he should be given the chance to show what he can do in more of a 3-4-3 against Fulham. Last chance to stay ahead of Yarmolenko in my view
  • The current system works well, why should DM change that for a player who is lazy and disinterested?
  • What is Haller’s goals per game ratio ? And how much did he cost ?
  •  I’ll give you 50p and a pack of pork scratchings for him
  • It’s in none of our interests to just cast Haller aside on £100k a week and devaluing all the time.

I think we’re all p*ssed of with him but I really think DM should start him against Fulham. This should be a game that suits him. He should be a lot less isolated than he was against Liverpool. I know he should be putting a shift in regardless, but that’s clearly not the way he works, he needs a system that works. Let’s just see if we can get players up to him and see what happens. If after 60 mins, it’s the same old story then hook him and see what Benrahma can do for half an hour.

The plain simple fact is he is showing no desire to play for our club , we who like me at 74 have seen numerous players like Boogers and others who wear the great colours yet their hearts says get me out of here. Sell him ASP

  • Hammerpete says:

Don’t change the system for him. He should be good enough to adapt. Over the decades the most successful clubs and international teams played a system and players fitted in to it – or not. If we are solid at 5-4-1 then that’s us. Not interested in Haller scores but we let in 3 or 4.

  • Eastendexile says:

I felt for the guy, how many of the ‘forward’ passes were actually anywhere near him or attainable?
Fabianski’s lumps forward are not going to work and when Fornals and he were running and Haller made the move in the centre he didn’t play it to him.
He needs Behrahama and Bowen alongside to flourish. It is a sign of madness to keep doing the same thing each time and expect a different outcome. Play him to his strengths not his weakness’s

    • WestOzHammer says:

Yep, agree. We’ve got the right players to use Haller at his strengths. Never mind how much he cost, he’s there and has skills, probably just needs his confidence back.

For those saying we shouldn’t change formation to suit a different type of striker I ask “why not?”. Nothing like using your subs to change it up and make your opposition react/adapt. We could easily switch from 5-4-1 to 5-3-2 and keep it tight. Fulham would be an ideal testing ground surely? Perfect chance to bring Said B into the starting lineup too. He’s played Fulham enough times already. 🙂

    • Robert Goodwin says:

You are 100% right, he scored regularly in Germany when played to his strengths. It is unfair to judge him the way DM is asking him to play!

  • aol says:

Haller is a top class striker. It reflects badly on our coaching staff if we struggle to get anything from him. Give him a run of games and some creativity from midfield.

  • Keithsickofexcuses says:

Why not try doing what they used to do in the past with Players like him, just keep hoisting the ball into the box at head high and see if he scores.

  • Hammer_Rite says:

How anyone can feel sorry for him is beyond me?
He reminds me of anderson with his attitude.Bundles of talent but only shows it whens he wants to.
The team playing under moyes now are all willing to fight for their places,i don’t put haller under that group.

    • Eastendexile says:

U feel for him because it must be immensely frustrating to not being used correctly and then being accused of apathy when you don’t perform in that style.
Would Defoe have flourished in this team playing like this – no, does that make him lazy or uncaring too ?
Too many people slagging him off when the issue is he’s not being utilised correctly.
Play a format to suit his style and if he doesn’t perform , then moan, but give him a chance to do what he does best first!

  • master says:

He’s not the striker we hoped he’d be.

However you don’t judge a player on a game against the best team I. The league. Similarly you don’t judge them against the worst, our next opponents.

Let’s see how he does over the season, as he ain’t going anywhere and our choices are thin.

  • Spotted Dog says:

I accept that he’s not getting the passes to suit his style but it remains a fact that he does not chase players down, doesn’t press and tackle with conviction and just wanders about once the ball’s gone past him. Every other player we have attacks and defends with energy. The rule of ‘if you don’t run you don’t play isn’t being applied in his case. Any other job going in East London where you’re allowed to sulk on full pay?

  • Taffyhammer says:

And as mentioned on Match of the Day, Seb Haller is the West Ham top goalscorer with 5 goals so far this season. When the rest of the team are doing their bit, he’s pretty good.
All those saying he’s not bothered – did you notice the 3 runs he had to stop and go again in the run-up to Fornals’ goal? Soul destroying when expecting a ball to be played up into the danger area and chap on the ball is only looking for short pass to someone close. We’ve played like this too many times. We’ve been getting better of late – but not against Liverpool. We still performed well, but Haller would have been better served with better service.
