Hammers in advanced talks for Coufal replacement

|

talkSPORT are reporting that West Ham are close to the signing of Norwich Winger Max Aarons. Whether Aarons would be seen as one for the future or a Coufal replacement is not yet known.

As the old saying goes, ‘didn’t he used to be the future?’ and Aarons certainly fits that category. The Norwich full-back once had the world at his feet, with Manchester City and Bayern Munich interested.

Aarons career stuttered in recent years and it has taken 18 months for him to rebuild his confidence. The 23 year old is currently with the England U21 squad in Portugal.

Aarons has played over 200 games for the Canaries and was back to his best last season. As a result, Premier League teams have started to take notice again an the Hammers are one such team.

Coufal replacement? Max Aarons is on the Hammers radar

I couldn’t attest to the validity of the report, but Talk Sport seem confident in the link. They claim that West Ham are in ‘advanced talks’ with the player and hold a serious interest.

It’s also worth noting that Aarons has played 70 Premier League games. He’s clearly not a top flight novice so may prove to be a shrewd transfer.

Possibly Ben Johnson is at the greatest risk from Aarons arrival. The lifelong Hammers is rumoured to be surplus to requirements at The London Stadium. Whilst Johnson has featured mainly at right back, he has become something of a utility player for David Moyes.

I have a few Norwich friends and I’ve asked them about Max many times. They all say, great player but has no end product ie. can’t cross the ball. Maybe not such an upgrade on Johnson

Do you think that Ben Johnson could rebuild his confidence within 18 months? I think he could because he obviously has the talent and did very well for us over a couple of seasons. The problem, I suspect, is David Moyes!

I thought Moysie would step down with pride after the cup win.And with money from Decs sale and a manager who understands todays game,we would enter a new phase.Same old performance incoming next season i fear.
