Hammers in fourth place

|

Gold3West Ham became the fourth biggest spenders in the transfer window and in some respects that told a tale with which maybe we would prefer to be associated.

Despite the view of the club’s critics that we should spend like crazy in January two of the clubs who spent more  are struggling in a big way confirming that it’s the lowly teams that get involved in panic buying.

The idea that big clubs spend big money at this time of the year simply isn’t true – on this occasion anyway – and a re-think among some who believe otherwise may be required.

The  Hammers – having spent £18 million came in behind Crystal Palace  (18th), Everton (7th) and Leicester City (16th)

Some have been precitably critical of the club for their spend on the basis that Andy Carroll may get injured give his track record record but David Gold hit back at those on Twitter who appear to be blaming him and the club at large.

One follower said; “Well done on a successful transfer deadline day. Should Carroll get injured, we’re screwed. Well played!”

Gold responded: “I understand your concerns and your sarcasm but the manager doesn’t agree with you. It’s all a matter of opinions. dg

The Jan window is for struggling teams to be held hostage as their desperation grows.
Some will say we had a good window, others will say it was a bad one.The difference is the ones who feel it was bad will still be f@cking tell everyone it was for the next four months..

Three wins & it will all be forgotten…..three losses & it won’t.

January bargain bucket players apart from the fact they are not bargains.I dont know what players we were ment to buy i havnt seen much quality signed anywhere else.Should we sign six sh1t players so it looks like we were busy. You can only buy what is being sold unless you put in silly bids..how would fans react to that..
I read we are short because we have let the kids out on loan but how the f@ck do these fans not know we might have a release clause if we are beset by injuries. Most of it is moaning for moanings sake.

And yet their tongues will be firmly up Sean’s arse when he posts over there again. I think they don’t like to see anything positive written on the club.

I think the players that were purchased are good acquisitions that will enhance the team / squad…..and tbh there really wasn’t that much out there that would have been worth the punt on….. I’m pleased.. no money wasted…..hopefully we can have a really good look at further players in the next couple of months…..and get our act together and sign some quality at the end of season and get them on board early for pre season and avoid all that transfer havoc.we’ll also be able to ascertain where we stand on our youngsters that have been loaned out..

But we are probably 1st in the selling stakes too…the board have taken a big gamble on our injury prone strikers staying fit…but i can understand that there isn’t alot out there to improve on what we’ve got !!

Perfectly good window to my mind. We have strengthened the team/squad with 2 excellent premiership proven players and moved on le sulk. Hogan at £15M was a risk too far, think Rhodes and McCormack. I’d have taken Defoe in a heartbeat but £6/8M tops and let’s be honest Sunderland would not sell for £20M. He is their only hope to stay up.

  • Hammerintheblood says:

I hear ya….there’s some good players that will be looking to stay in the premier come relegation time….hopefully we can grab one or two good players to boost our squad as I think we need to recruit some proper players to give the first teamers some competition and a run for their money ….going off subject a bit, I think Adama traore from Middlesbrough is well worth a good look at..he’s still young but looks a very decent baller…

  • Lads WHTID really don’t matter at all. Ignore and let me know the troublemakers @ claretandhugh@gmail.com. I’ll jusy kick em out End of

Would have thought with about 10m surplus in the kitty D&D could have afforded a decent right back something we have needed for a while seeing as we only have one in the squad.
