Hammers linked to midfielder target

|

West Ham are being linked with Celtic’s Olivier Ntcham who scored scored seven goals and registered eight assists in all competitions for Celtic last season.

According to L’Equipe the Irons are interested in the central midfielder along with several other Premier League clubs.

The 22 year old is valued at around €3 million but it seems unlikely that Manuel Pellegrini would be overly interested.

It’s a tremendous jump from the Scottish League to the Premier and it seems this may just be another name thrown into the mix at this stage of proceedings.

However, the Hammers continue to confirm that one more midfielder is on the hands with pellegrini himself admitting he and the board are taking all financial considerations into account.

It is Tierney we should be looking at, if we are getting rid of Obiang / Kouyate then I can see the value in this one. As for the jump in quality, if you are playing for Celtic then it is much less of a risk, many years ago now I suggested we should go for Wanyama and also Van Dijk both of whom have proved it is an easy step if you are good enough.

Where Is the striker! I am hoping a decent striker is being lined up but it has gone under the media’s radar. Seems unlikely so I am getting concerned. Have had enough of these ‘gambles’. You end up with players having to plug a gap by playing out of position, or a desperate signing (step forward Roger Johnson, plus countless strikers whose names I can’t remember).

Saw a ‘Season prediction’ in a football magazine today. I think they just about got us right last season. Their prediction for 2018/19 -8th. But to be fair last season they had Burnley for the drop & Norwich for promotion! So it is back to rolling a dice.

  • You consider the seven we have in gambles?. We’ve reported that a striker is being sought along with a midfielder on numerous occasions 64. I think the spending we have seen this season suggests the Roger Johnson years are gone

Misunderstanding I think Hugh. I have said on here several times over the last few weeks that I am pleased with the changes that seem to be happening at the club. Like most of us I can’t be sure about the quality of some of the signings because I haven’t seen them play. But the reports seem promising, & I think Fabianski Fredericks & Wilshere could turn out to be good buys. So, no I don’t think there is much gambling going on over the players who have been brought in, and I didn’t suggest there was. Both the manager & the players do appear to be a step up in class.

I have noted your comments on here about the search for a striker. That is one of the reasons why I have hardly passed any comments on the rumours of defenders or midfielders rumoured to be coming. Following your advice from a week or two back I have pretty much ingnored these rumours.

My point on the striker was nothing more than concern that we didn’t seem close to nailing a decent one down. And that, given the money that has been spent, there might be a temptation on the part of the owners to say ‘We have Arnautovich & Hernandez- they probably won’t both get injured & if they do Hugill or Antonio could do a job for a few weeks’. In fact, I could understand that thinking. I happen to think that it would be a gamble. One not worth taking. In my opinion.
