Hammers make Diop stance clear

|

By Dave Langton

West Ham will not be selling Issa Diop this summer.

A top club insider has confirmed to us that there is no desire at the club to move the Frenchman out of the club in the next transfer window after he has shown signs of returning to his very best.

Diop bounced back with a particularly excellent performance against Leicester, when he provided an assist in the 2-2 draw.

David Moyes is keen to keep his defensive ranks together, with Kurt Zouma, Craig Dawson and Diop the current options with Angelo Ogbonna out injured.

Moyes was keen to buy a centre-back in January and will try to do so again in the summer, although that will be aimed at eventually replacing Dawson.

Diop, we have been told, will be kept at the club and there could well be talks over a potential new contract, with his current deal set to expire in 2023.

I remember a few years ago when Ogbonna used to put in similar performances till he grew in confidence to become a leader in the dressing room. I feel like Diop will do the same , right now he’s overshadowed maybe by bigger characters in the dressing room but he was Captain at 21 with Toulouse and can go again to fulfill the potential to be a top top class centre back ….
