Hammers move for Loftus-Cheek

|

West Ham are bidding to bring Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek to the club as their final signing.

The box to box midfielder was with Fulham on loan last season and the Hammers now want him at the London Stadium on the same deal with first refusal to buy at the end of the 21/22 season.

The former England international is the type of all action player David Moyes likes and there will be a big push on deadline day to bring him in after a busy day today attempting to get it done.

It would be a top signing for the Hammers who have of course been linked with the 25 year old on various occasions in the past few months.

Now, there seems to be a realistic opportunity for David Sullivan to conclude his signings successfully before Rob Newman takes over as Head of Recruitment next month.

It’s all a far cry from the words of David Moyes earlier this month when he suggested there may be no new arrivals at all.

Meanwhile, there has been a day of fierce activity over Jessie Lingard with West Ham insisting he needs to West Ham.

He still looks likely to to stay at Manchester United despite the arrival of Ronaldo and having to  cope with the pressures of huge competition from almost everywhere in the squad.

His father Cyril – who acts as his agent – is believed to be driving the deal to stay at Old Trafford but such has been the Hammers pressure today there remains the very outside chance that he could become a deadline day loan signing if, as seems likely, United can’t get the £30m fee.
