Hammer joins Terriers after signing new deal

|

Hammers striker Mipo Odubeko has joined Huddersfield Town on loan for the 2021/22 Sky Bet Championship season, with the move having a break clause for both clubs in January 2022.

The 18-year-old has been a prolific scorer at Under-23 and Under-18 level for The Hammers and his former club Manchester United.

He’s made his senior debut for the Hammes appearing in the Emirates FA Cup and the Papa John’s Trophy last season.

Mipo will wear the number seven shirt for the Terriers.

Huddersfield Head of Football Operations Leigh Bromby commented on the Terriers official website:

We’re delighted to welcome Mipo to Huddersfield Town today. He’s one of the most promising young strikers in England at the moment, and we’re delighted that West Ham have entrusted us with this phase of his development.

“With the unfortunate injury to Jordan Rhodes, we wanted to ensure that we had a good number of striking options, and Mipo gives us that alongside Danny Ward, Fraizer Campbell and Josh Koroma.

“Mipo adds some different qualities to our forward options and, when we spoke, it was clear he has a huge desire to show what he’s capable of in senior football.”

Huddersfield Head Coach Carlos Corberán added:

Mipo is a young striker with potential, who offers us something different in the attacking areas.

“He can play as a single striker or as a front pairing, and his finishing is a real strength; he has a very good shot from both his left and right sides.

“I am looking forward to working with him over the coming weeks and months.”

West Ham have also confirmed the news saying Odubeko has signed a new contract with the Club until the summer of 2023.

The 18-year-old forward was a standout performer in development football last season, scoring 14 goals in 12 Academy appearances and winning the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award for April.

He becomes the fourth West Ham youngster to be loaned to an EFL club, following goalkeeper Joseph Anang, winger Nathan Holland and defender Frederik Alves, who have linked up with Stevenage, Oxford United and Sunderland respectively.
