Hammers speak out on striker link

|

West Ham have denied serious interest for often mentioned Amiens striker Serhou Guirassy.

The striker has been linked with a possible move since last summer and now the Ligue 1 club’s president Bernard Joannin has claimed there is definite interest along with the same from Crystal Palace.

Sky first reported the new of our supposed interest in a player that is apparently valued at around £18 million after a modest  return of nine Ligue 1 goals in 2019/20.

Now Joannin is hyping up the possible sale it seems declaring: “I can’t tell you right now (where he is going), we’ll have to ask Serhou what he wants to do.

“In addition to French interest, we can also add Crystal Palace and West Ham.

“Currently, the most interesting offers are those from England but we do not want to get in the way of Serhou’s career. It is up to Serhou’s advisers to see which is the best option.”

However, that was immediately followed by a near denial of any real interest from the Irons when we spoke to a well placed contact at the London Stadium.

He said: The player is certainly not in the £18 million bracket and there is very very minor interest from our point of view. Someone appears to be attempting to create interest.

“Prices are bound to fall this sale with no gate or corporate money.”

However, even that response suggests that the hammers – as has been believed for some toime – are indeed very much in the market for a striker.
