Hammers waiting game on striker targets

|

Christian-Benteke-640x400West Ham will move in seriously on their striker targets once the season comes to an end.

Although the club has identified four serious players they are unable to process any moves whilst the season is is still underway.

We understand that Christian Benteke – although unlikely – has not been 100 per cent discarded.

And both Alexandre Lacazette and Michy Batshuay are strongly fancied although a source close to the club added that there are three other names on the short list which has been whittled down from 12 over recent weeks.

We were told that fans need not expect any serious developments until the season comes to an end.

ClaretandHugh was told by a senior club insider: “We know the supporters are desperate for news and obviously we have plans in place but nothing will happen until the end of the season.

Agents and clubs quite understandably don’t want to lower the form of players by putting thoughts of transfers into their heads.”

I hope the 2 Daves and Slav have got the people they really want hidden away from the guessing press and go for those targets ,
Then we find out when the deal is done before the Spuds,Gooners and Scoucers can push the price up or talk our targets out of joining us,
Hope our rumoured freebies come off,Nordvelt the Turk right back, as they seem positive,
But even if we sign no one we are in a good place,

ahah… I’m not desperate, my nappy still holds… lol It’s going to be a long and hot summer, It is still too early to have concrete answers. Anyway I read rumors about Lacazette, Batshuay, Benteke, etc. that was unthinkable three/four years ago… Not bad, Not bad. 😉

Personally I can’t see what Benteke gives us that we don’t already have. I hope we have a similar list for wingers too. Bolasie/Salah/Deulofeu/Mane/Tore would be most welcome. A fullback who can ideally play left and right back and then Berardi to play alongside/rotate with Payet and Lanzini. Hopefully get them done early so they all have a full preseason. It’s nice to dream!

Good point dj, I agree with you. However, I fear that Berardi will be sold to Juve… he’s a great talent 😉

It certainly does seem like they have first refusal on the lad, unfortunately. He has a great eye for a pass and his free kicks aren’t too shabby either! Oh well, one way or another, we might get to see him at the Olympic Stadium

Would certainly like to see Bolasie, Salah, Deulofeu or Tore, I think the ones presently playing in England would be cost prohibitive, the positions we need strengthening IMHO are striker, defensive midfielder and right back, as for offensive midfielders we are in pretty good shape (although the ones you mention would give us something), if we had to spend 20m on one player I would break the bank for Ngolo Kante, there is also talk that Mikel Arteta might be available on a free, he is a little injury prone these days but he is a good option as a dm especially on a free.

So I think we’re getting Nordtveit from BM to fill the defensive mid role if the medical is ok. He’s 25 and also on a free which makes the deal even sweeter and frees up funds for other players.

Right back is an interesting one. I suppose Byram is the long term solution, but if he needs another year or so, I would be happy to see a veteran come in. Again it’s just wishful thinking, but if Zabaleta or (and I appreciate we’re entering the realms of pure fantasy here) Dani Alves become available I’d hope the board might consider it. Both come with bags of experience so would be great for Byram and could be great for the whole dressing room.

Wages would probably be a deal breaker though.

Arteta is 34 and hasn’t played regularly for 2-3 years now. I don’t know what he could bring to the team and the club, besides filling the bench, if that. Why not just have Poyet (son) back then ?

  • bubs says:

Think the back up to Byram long term will be the free Turk international,
Agree Poyet as back up to Nordvelt will be plenty with Obiang covering Kouyate and Noble now,
It’s down to weather Valencia stays,
And another strong CH would be great,
Wilson of Bournemouth and Barahino of WBA or Torre any 2
Just hope we don’t get stuck with Emineke on the cheap
Gray of Burnley would be a great buy as well

Slav, Dave and Dave??? You’ve got headaches but nice ones, been chicken run hammer since 1963,, your decisions suit me,,when hippo went,, I hoped you would pick Slav? And you did.

We have a fantastic group of young players out on loan, bring these back into the fold & save the club £m’s in transfer fees. The club in the past have made the mistake of letting all our young talent grow impatient & let them all leave for nothing.
