Hammers winless record in August

|

West Ham have not won or drawn a game in August since 2016!

That season they lost to Chelsea 2-1 on the opening day before winning the only August win at the London Stadium with Michail Antonio the scorer in a narrow 1-0 win against AFC Bournemouth on 21st August 2016. Next came another 3-1 loss against Man City away on 28th August 2016.

There was no joy at the start of the 2017/2018 season either with 4-0 loss against Manchester United at Old Trafford on 13th August 2017 followed by a 3-2 loss against Southampton on 19th August the same year then a 3-0 away loss against Newcastle on 26th August the same season.

Last season was no better with a 4-0 loss against Liverpool at Anfield on 12th August then 2-1 defeat against Bournemouth on 18th August at the London Stadium followed by a 3-1 defeat against Arsenal at the Emirates on 25th August 2018.

With a 5-0 loss to Manchester City on Saturday, the Hammers have three more games to break their August duck when they face Brighton, Watford and Norwich City.

  • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

It shows a pattern similar to our teams in that we start slow and get better over time, where the best teams start fast and continue at a high level or in spuds case start fast and fall away. Have no idea what is right for a club of our size and ambition but personally think we should drive more earlier to maximise the outcome across a season

I’ll second that. More consistency required to leave less pressure on us. Steady points better than playing catch up.

    Do we get a trophy?
