Hammers youngster attracts big interest

|

West Ham youngster Emmanuel Longelo is being linked with a move to Rangers.

The Sun  claims that the Hammers youngster is  seen as a replacement for Calivin Bassey who appears to be on his way to Aston Villa

Its not the first time the 21 year old left back has attracted interest with newly promoted Nottingham Forest making an offer in the winter.

Now it seem there are a number of club – HARDLY SURPRISINGLY – keen on him with both Bournemouth and Milllwall for goodness sake among his admirers.

And it is more than possible that Forest boss Steve Cooper will return with a bid for a player  who impressed all of us who saw him in his only first team game against Dinamo Zagreb.

The youngster performed  brilliantly on that night but was not seen again. In fact he wasn’t even included in a single one of West Ham’s 38 Premier League squads.

With one year left on his deal and a year’s option it seems that the manager may be ready to sell.

Clearly other manager’s see something in Longelo which Moyes seemingly refuses to acknowledge. Admittedly he had injury issues last season, but he is an excellent young full back with all the qualities to be our long-term left back (with Ashby on the right). If West Ham sell him, it questions our commitment to the development of Academy players and also Moyes’s inability to successfully promote and integrate the best of our young players into the first-team squad.

I disagree with that statement. If the only interested clubs are at a lower level than West Ham, that is more a testiment that a player is not good enough for PL. If managers of clubs around and above West Ham is not interested, then how can Moyes be flawed? Nothing to do with Longelo specifically, I havent seen him enough to judge myself. So far Moyes had only really trusted Ben Johnsen, perhaps there’s a reason for that other than Moyes being stupid?

The problem is moyes and his attitude of dithering stubborn and certainly 3 times sacked says it all. Done well with us but won’t take us further . One more season seeing what he gets in but another kral on loan and another vlasic will see him gone end of season and rightly so .

I have watched this young crop of players with intent over the last 18 months & i can safely say that 3 or 4 of them could save us a lot of money in the forth coming transfer window that could be utilised to stregnthen the squad in other places, alas whilst Moyes is at the helm the youngsters will never get a chance so our youth develop scheme is pretty pointless

Another example by the sounds of it of Aston Villa getting deals done while our Chairmen and Manager dither in the transfer market, we shouldn’t have the crossed hammers as a symbol it should be a statue of Sullivan with his finger stuck in his derriere

Longelo has looked good when I’ve seen him (I watched the Europa game and U21 matches on YouTube) and obviously has room to grow and strengthen. So whilst losing him is disappointing, I would still trust Moysies judgement. BUT what really disappoints me is Calvin Bassey going to Villa instead of us…. Why? He looked awesome in the Europa finals and why would he go to Villa instead of us? That’s my biggest concern – quality players choosing Not to come to the LS!! 😟

I agree with many of the comments here. This is a double edged sword – we are not developing the U23 players and we are slow in the transfer market. Villa have shown us up this past year and now. We will lose our young players if we don’t develop them. Not good enough? That won’t show until they are tried and nurtured. They are good enough to top the League they play in. When Slav played Dec for the first time he did well but he wasn’t what he is now. We are sending the wrong message.

Bassey can’t really come back to Newham. There are issues with that, involving his brother.
