Here we go again as Pellegrini has a moan-up

|

Manuel Pellegrini had a moan-up about conceding the first goal against Wolves from a set piece after last night’s game  which would be all well and good were it the first or even just the second time it has happened.

But given – as he admitted – it’s happened numerous times against the likes of Newcastle, twice against Palace and once against Bournemouth he is hardly doing himself any favours by bringing it up.

Given too that we have have had three different central defensive partnerships over the last 10 games or so, such statements become even more unacceptable as the manager goes through the usual routine of doing little more than commenting on the details of a match which most of us saw anyway.

It’s also more than questionable that he should bring this up as the first point in his post-match presser when there was so much else within the team about which he should be very concerned indeed.

Commenting after the game at https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2019/december/04-december/manuel-pellegrini-its-frustrating-set-play-goal-decisive he said: “Of course we wanted to win two games in a row away from home. It’s not easy. We didn’t play a bad game but unfortunately for us they scored from a set piece.

“We had some opportunities to draw the game, but didn’t score and then after that playing 65 or 70 minutes one goal behind, they found the space for one last counter attack that decided the score.

“Conceding the first was important [towards the final outcome] because we know that they are a side who like to manage possession, so being one goal in front makes it easier for them to play.”

“It’s frustrating because the most part of our goals conceded this season have been by set-pieces. You look at Newcastle, the two goals against Crystal Palace, one against Bournemouth – they are decisive goals when you want to win those games.

“In the first half it was a tight game, both teams had the same few opportunities to score, and that goal gave Wolverhampton the chance to play the game at the pace they wanted.”

He added: “I thought we worked well, but we didn’t create the chances necessary to draw the game. There was the one clear opportunity in the second half and football is like that.

“Sometimes you miss chances and sometimes you score, so now we have to look to win our home game against Arsenal.”

Sums up the man really doesn’t it?
Allegedly aware of the problems but does little or nothing to remedy the situation.

  • Berty says:

It’s pretty obvious his time is up, I was there last night and we don’t seem to have any plan, why not put the little guys on the post defending corners, they can’t challenge in the air, or stick them on the half way line to cause distraction, 11 back every time, yet concede time and time again, Wolves were no more than workmanlike, 3rd game in a week, yet it was so easy for them, we are sleepwalking to the championship

Agree with your comment about defending corners with all 11 players in our box, it just allows the opposition to get all of their defenders forward. I’m always whingeing at every home game to leave 2 or even 3 of our smaller blokes on the half way line, the other team would then be forced to leave at least 3 or 4 back. There must be some reason for it as most Premier sides adopt the same tactics?

I’d like to know what game he was watching if he thinks we didn’t play to bad 😫

Only a matter of time now.. put him/us out of our misery, why wait any longer. He hasn’t shown any improvement over the last few games. One good result means nothing if we go back to being cr@p again four days later.
Arsenal Saturday, forget it nothing for us there.

Is he still our manager ???

    One point missed?

    What an indictment!

Pity the Sale of Goods Act does not apply to football.

    Specifically, “Fit for Purpose”

Neither the coach and his entourage, nor the players they have brought in, are fit for the Premier League.

At best, they MIGHT be fit for his one style of play, but then, on Hackney Marshes.

My 65th year and January 2010 began the almost 10 most depressing years I have experienced; at least in respect of our beloved West Ham.

He has pretty much put his head on the block again. Most of us knew we would get that performance after the Chelsea win.Husillos definitely needs to go at the same time.We are miles behind Wolves and Leicester in management and player recruitment and have gone backwards this season.45 mill Haller looks like a ghost and yesterday was turgid and sideways again with no drive.

  • Martin Roberts says:

It’s as if he actually thought he was going to get £80m to spend every season!
Snodgrass,Antonio and even Noble were starting to look like “bit part” players last season! Now they are “irreplaceable”Because of the obvious weakness in CM, he stumbled on a new role for Rice and even got rid of Obiang!
What on earth is one of our very rare commodities in pace doing out on loan so we have the pleasure in witnessing a lethargic Eastern European player wandering around in an apparent daze? Why do we need five no 10s and one GK, one and a half DMs and one CF?

  • mondodifeet says:

    Snoddy scores different game,
always blaming Pelli. We could have got a point here
    Players !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Del PE. says:

Mondodifeet, so you would have been happy if Snoddy scores ( and he should have) and we steal a point.!!!
Never mind the rest of the game where we were always second best…pedestrian as always, shambolic as normal when trying to defend corners and free kicks into our box… (Balbeuena, Ogbonna or Diop when he plays have lost the art of winning DEFENSIVE headers that HAVE TO BE WON.) .. Unforgiveable.
All that would have happened IF WE GOT A Draw was that we would be papering over all the massive CRACKS that are abundant in our general performances be it in defence, midfield (Noble cannot play twice in 3or 4.games) and atack.(one up front)
No… times up MP, please walk the plank. Never to be seen again… Aye Aye captain!

  • Hammerkip says:

For God’s sake I can’t listen to his drivel anymore more ..plse put and end to this so we can start to build once again..this bloke is finished..how the hell can he say we worked well …absolute clown

  • Vince says:

Quote: “we had some opportunities to draw the game”, how about going for a win, push forward, play 4-3-3 or 5-2-3. Be more positive and give the poser £100 k a week players a hard kick to perform or dock theur pay fir poor performance.
Sadly he has to go and some of our hangers on too, and give the youth more games or they will be off elsewhere. 42 years a hammer fan and still frustrated at poor half hearted performances, where is the fight abd passion!!! COYI

  • Kevin says:

Declan Rice as CF , anyone ? . He can hold the ball up . Get his head on a ball . Shoot . Distribute and dribble. . Didn’t cost 45million either .
