Hernandez took massive pay cut to join Sevilla

|

Sevilla sporting director Monchi spoke yesterday about Javier Hernandez joining the La Liga club telling the media “I must say that in my 20 years as a sports director I had never seen a football player lower his salary so much to sign for Sevilla”.

Chicharito signed a three-year contract with the Spanish club on £75,000 per week with an additional £500,000 bonus for Champions League qualification.

The Mexican was widely reported to have been West Ham’s top earner between £140,000 and £145,000 per week although this theoretical maximum relied on the 31-year-old starting every week.

The striker’s basic wage was thought to be around the £105,000 per week mark with the remainder built up on appearance bonuses, substitute bonuses, bench bonuses, win bonuses, goal bonuses, loyalty/signing on bonuses and league position and cup runs.

However even when not playing Hernandez still earned well in excess of £100,000 per week meaning he took at least a twenty-five per cent pay cut to move his family to a Spanish speaking country after handing in his transfer request last Thursday.

He was earning enough at W.HAM to cushion that drop and getting a salary of good proportion at Sevilla.
Best of luck to him all that sun lots of money and a starting spot if lucky.
