Holland returns to West Ham after injury

|

Hammer Nathan Holland’s loan at Oxford United is over whether the football season restarts or not.

The 21-year-old sustained a torn hamstring last weekend, when he was forced off 40 minutes into the O’s 3-2 win at Shrewsbury Town.

Holland, who has scored three goals in 12 appearances since joining on loan in January has been sent back to West Ham for medical assessment but will not rejoin Oxford again.

The winger has had hamstring issues in the past and missed the Oxford game against Southend last month due to tightness in his muscle.

U’s head coach Karl Robinson said: “Nathan’s torn his hamstring quite severely. He sent a lovely text last night to myself and the players. We wish him all the luck in the world now in his recovery. He’s shown he’s going to be a good player.

The injury is severe enough that Holland would not be available, even if United reached the Sky Bet League One play-offs.

Last year Holland has signed a new contract with the Club which will see him with the club until at least 2022.

He joined from Everton in January 2017. The Manchester-born attacker had already been capped by England at U16, U17, U18 and U19 levels prior to joining the Hammers.
