How we rated the Irons against Dinamo Zagreb

|

Hughie hands out his marks

Areola: Left for dead for the goal but two decent saves after that and looked in solid form throughout 7

Ashby: Love this lad on the couple of occasions I’ve seen him. Defended well and always trying to make things happen down the right 7

Baptiste: Steady performance – did very little wrong and used the ball well 7

Alese: Very confident performance indeed.  Did his job well at the back – fine block late in second half and always looking to find his man 7+

Top game from young Longelo

Longelo: My mom. Did some great attacking work down the left – always looking to be involved and defended well when required. Top performance from the boy 8

Noble: Skipper didn’t put a foot wrong – some clever stuff in his game. 7+

Kral: Good defensive midfield performance in the first 45. Let himself down a little with some sloppy stuff in the second 6

Yarmolenko: Pretty typical performance. Lot of running but little else 5

Vlasic: Looked exciting at times but little reward for a lot of strong play 7+

Fornals: One of two exciting runs, one of which set up a dangerous looking free kick. Subbed later 6+

Perkins: Felt sorry for the lad. Essentially a midfielder asked to play a near one up role and had little service 5

Subs

Benrahma: Worked hard but still missing that magic 6

Potts: Son of the Stevie – arrived late No rating

Forsun came on too. Yarmalenko doesn’t deserve a score.

    Missed Forson…
I agree with aol, Yarmo doesn’t deserve a score for his performance (great actor, rubbish footballer). Yarmo acted his way through that game and I’m glad to hear reports of interested clubs because I want to see him gone. Enough is enough for the money that he is being paid each week.
Agreed regarding Longelo who I thought put in a great performance. All in all the youngsters did well which would have been a proud moment for them all. They will all learn from this game and improve going forward. I felt a little sorry for an isolated Sonny though, but this will also be a Massive learning experience for him.
I wasn’t greatly impressed by Kral, but I saw enough from Vlasic to believe that he will come good.
Nobes was steady as usual but had his work cut out in trying to bring some order to a brand new team including many youngsters.

So proud of our club and the vision of David Moyes. It is breathtaking that we can bring in SIX young academy players which doesn’t include Rice or Johnson, and then sub on the next Potts off the assembly line, and they all played with composure and maturity. It is even more fab that DM actually did it, and probably brought those young stars on in lumps. Proud old Iron!
