How we rated the Irons against Everton

|

Niall McDonald hands out the marks

Randolph: A comfortable and confident 2nd debut 7
Zabaleta: A really strong committed performance from Zaba and picked up a very professional yellow card near the end 6
Diop: Pretty solid alongside Ogbonna 7
Ogbonna: One of the best performances I’ve seen from him. Defended excellently 8
Cresswell: Some fine crosses and one of the worst corners I’ve seen (and I’ve seen us mess up plenty) 5
Rice: Showed real quality on the ball, would be good to see more of this aspect of his game 6
Noble: There’ll come a time where we won’t see the skipper dwelling on the ball, chasing and harrying the opposition like this – not sure if I’ll be relieved or miss it 5
Fornals: Maximum effort for an hour; one of the few who looked forwards for a pass 6
Lanzini: I’d like to see him creating a little more. He did try to get beyond Haller from clearances though 6
Snodgrass: Slow pace of both sides helped him complete the full 90 6
Haller: Pretty typical, looks good when involved in the play  6

Subs
Masuaku: Offered some width but I was a little disappointed we didn’t get the ball to him more 5
Ajeti: An energetic cameo! A shot, some neat touches, some tackles… short and sweet 5

Manager:
Limited options in team selection but Moyes put out an organised, committed line-up. No surprises with the substitutions. It was pleasing to see him out overseeing the warm-up before the game  7

Thought Zabaleta played as well as anyone apart from watching their goal! Would have given him 7

Moyes as tactically inept as I keep saying. Half way through the second half when we were playing terribly he should have switched to a 3-5-2 bringing Masa and Ajeti on taking either Noble and Snodgrass off. It was so obvious the right thing to do but no he takes off Fornals who shows so much more than either Noble or Snodgrass and does not change the system. If he had changed the system we would have won the game. I just don’t get how Noble could start today after his performance at Sheff Utd even with a limited squad. But this is exactly why I never wanted Moyes, this is him, makes the wrong subs and tactically not good enough to make a change when one is needed. Big struggles ahead I am afraid.

Who’s he going to play with no other centre mids with experience or pace. Get real, West Ham have got the manager for their level.

Johnham, you’ve missed how poor Lanzini was and has been for a while. I though Nobes had a decent first half actually. As for Haller he needs to put away chances that comes his way. I still have reservations of Haller and his body language. It doesn’t look great at times.

  • Ben says:

Really? I thought snoddy was fantastic today he should have 8

I have to say some of your ratings are shocking at times!!

Lanzini a 6 !!! really? ….lucky if he was a 2, i´d almost forgot he was playing to be honest!!

And to rate him the same as Snodgrass who was one of the better players with some quality deliveries and endless effort… well that´s stumped that one!

    • Mikey says:

Totally agree on Lanzini. What has happened to him? Totally off the pace of the game. Remember when we worried Liverpool were scouting him? Now, we hope they do.

  • Zac says:

For all Hallers positives, for a big man he gets brushed off so easily and his link up play is atrocious… the amount of times we lose the ball through him is getting painful to watch. Plus fluffed a simple one on one … he’s no 20 goals a season striker! Hope I’m proved wrong

  • Roger Harrington says:

Cannot agree with the scores given to Lanzini,Heller and Cresswell,in my opinion, they deserved only 5 where as Snoddy deserved at least 7.Wasn’t one of Nobes better games!

  • John Harrison says:

Thought we were, as usual, disjointed in midfield. Sad to see a player as talented as Rice without any real partner. Reckon we should prioritise getting in Barkley. With Fornals constantly improving, we’d could have a good midfield in the future.

Apart from giving Lanzini 5 more than he deserved and the Noble sympathy vote not a bad assessment . The last 2 Noble appearances must surely have shown even you guys that he is a liability .

    • Hammersone says:

Bubbles, I thought you had gone into hiding. Noble was decent first half. Yes not great at Sheffield Utd, however excellent v Bournemouth. By the way Lanzini was awful and has been for a while. Haller body language poor.
