How we rated the Irons against Huddersfield

Hugh hands out the marks on a top day for the Irons

Adrian: Commanding and demanding of his defence. No chance with a superb goal but excellent save from deflected free kick and always confident 7

Zabaleta: He’s 32 on Tuesday but is still playing with all the enthusiasm of a kid. Always safe and steady 7

Collins: The no nonsense safety first stuff is obviously favoured by the manager and The Ginger Pele was generally on his game today 6

Ogbonna: The Italian will always be getting a place in central defence after coming into his very best form in recent weeks. Another good performance 7

Cresswell: He did okay without tearing up any trees which has really been the story of his season 6

Masuaku: Little to excite from Arthur today but did his job adequately 6

Noble: Grabbed the 50th goal of his career and thoroughly deserved it on this display. Always strong in possession with a fine range of passing 8

Kouyate: Another run of the mill display from the Senegal international. No complaints but nothing to rave about 5

Obiang: Ditto above 5

Arnautovic: Involved in all four goals which says it all. A complete performance in every aspect – quite the best we have seen from a Hammer this season. Making his £25 million price tag look utterly ridiculous. Wonderful display 10

Lanzini: Off his game in the first half but went into overdrive with Arnautovic in the second, scoring two goals and always causing issues for the Town defence 9.

Subs

Ayew (82) and Rice (85): Arrived too late for ratings

Lanzini and Arne pure class, if we could find another player with the same ability to play on the other wing, and a mobile clever 9 we would have some attacking options. I think today ended all discussions about Andy Carroll. If he had started we would have played terrible. If we does not want to be an impact player then accept any decent offer that comes in at Christmas. I would also accept any reasonable offer for Ayew. I think we need to buy this young Belgian lad from Anderlect for midfield. With Oxford back we have enough cover at the back.

Isn’t Arnie our clever mobile “no. 9” right now? Hopefully, Antonio will be back soon occupy the right wing position.

Overall, can’t argue with your rating.

It was probably the best display of counter-attacking football from West Ham since the heyday of Payet. Great movement and passing from Arnie and Lanzini finished with aplomb by lethal shooting. That will put the fear of god in many teams.

Kouyate was pushed further forward and I thought he linked up well with the front two. But the big guy looked dead tired in the end.

Masuaku didn’t create many chances today. Someone should tell him he doesn’t need to try to go pass 3 defenders every time he has the ball – Its far more important to pick a good pass.

Listened to the game on Radio so can’t add any ratings but sounded as though Obiang and Kouyate even if not the best quality were heavilly involved, Kouyate has looked weary for some time, it would be good if either Fernandes gets fit or we sign another strong midfielder so Cheik can have a rest, he is one of my favourite players as a big character much like Adrian in that sense and whatever he lacks in technical quality at his best he makes up for in enthusiasm, well done on a great win, looking forward to being at the match against the Shrews on Tuesday and hopefully another win COYI !!!

He just hates obiang and loves noble so always take out those two marks when reading this, didn’t say anything about noble totally over committing to allow Lolley that space to shoot. Although today was one of nobles best games for quite some time I like him with a freer mid role as not as dependant on his lack of pace tracking back an more on his passing ability, would love to see rice into back three an Oxford into holding midfield role alongside obiang to keep noble free for that role, all in all the counter attack came off well today an looked fairly solid with only 35% possession against a team like them, as soon as we passed the ball quickly in one touch passing up front we tore them apart, more of that please
