How we rated the Irons at Palace

|

CandH ratings man Niall McDonald hands out his marks

Roberto: Some solid punches and a brilliant stop from Wickham when one-on-one 6
Zabaleta: Will have been fully expecting a torrid afternoon. Got through it, but only just 5
Ogbonna: Clattered by former team-mate Kouyate late on 6
Balbuena: Turned inside out for the winner after a decent enough game on 5
Cresswell: Below average in defence and attack today 4
Rice: Covered for Zabaleta brilliantly several times in the second half 7
Noble: Confuses me why Noble drops so deep to collect the ball off the centre-backs – isn’t that Rice’s job? 5
Fornals: A steady hour on the left. Wasn’t overwhelmed with support or options 6
Snodgrass: Cut inside and tucked away his goal beautifully. So close to a second. Plenty of effort 7
Antonio: Stand out attacker in terms of strength, direction and quality 7
Haller: Strange – didn’t pose a great threat but once he was subbed our attacking impetus pretty much disappeared 5

Subs
Lanzini: Good to see him back; minimal impact this afternoon 4
Anderson: A few nice touches but not the sort of player to come in and see out a result 3

solid punching? wrong sport, fab would have caught the crosses. yes did well against wickham, but doesn’t know when to come off his line. you can see the team have no faith in him. you could see noble was unhappy before he got on the pitch, then lost it in the 1st half. what is going on in this club of ours?

  • spindoc says:

Roberto has done nothing wrong today that would have changed the result or the score line of the game. Credit (however little) where it’s due.

Its a disgrace to think they and the manager get paid for what was on display today. If the owners cannot now see how far this club has sunk they truly are living in some winter wonderland.Just wake up and put him out of his misery. That press conference this evening was appalling from a manager who knows his time is up.Its cruel to keep him hanging on and praying for miracles .Should have been done weeks ago .

  • master says:

    Lanzini – 2 at best. He’s crap.

  • Mikey says:

How does Rice always get a good score? His weak effort of a tackle led to the second Palace goal. He cannot pick a forward pass, and so always slows the game. And as you ask, why does Noble keep having to do his job for him, linking with our centre backs? Time to stop giving him a free pass. He has been poor for a while now. And Fornals? Can he actually pass the ball to a teammate?

    • Chris says:

So true. Rice continues to get a pass because he’s the Golden boy. But in honesty he’s had a poor season.

  • AD says:

Snodgrass 7 and Anderson 3 – sorry that’s a joke, Snodgrass took his goal well admittedly but everything else he touched was poor – watch the game again and see how many times our attack broke down because of him, Anderson looked much better than he has done recently.

Noble was a disgrace in the way he attacked Ogbonna – a player who has been outperforming him and the only consistent performer in the defence for the last few games. That wasn’t passion, that was total amateurism, clearly there are issues in the dressing room.

  • Jim says:

Completely agree AD. I was calling for Snods to be subbed before that goal, albeit well taken but before that he gave the ball away repeatedly. Anderson looked sharper when he came on and looked to be up for it to me
