How we rated the Irons v Arsenal

|

Fabianski: Totally at fault for second goal at near post in an otherwise reasonable performance 5

Coufal: Showed himself to be the best right back at the club playing well front and back 7

Dawson: Came right back to his best particularly in first half 8

Kehrer: Steady alongside Daws 6

Cresswell: Fine first half but often roasted by Saka in second 5

Rice: A couple of what might have been costly mistakes but otherwise great at sniffing out danger 7+

Soucek: Much improved on first half of season and played a big part in a fine first half defensive performance 7

Benrahma: Fine penalty to open the scoring but couldn’t trick his way through the Gooners defence 6

Paqueta: Little impact from the Brazilian – we are still waiting 4

Bowen: High energy performance and won the penalty. Like the rest. forced onto the back foot in second half 7+

Antonio: Might have had a couple – particularly with one effort early in second half – nut worked hard  6

Subs

Fornals: Did  well and forced one fabulous save out of keeper near the end 7

Delusional scores for Kehrer, Soucek and Bowen. Kehrer is without doubt a terrible defender we should never have bought. Soucek is simply awful and Bowen just played firce0 mins and was knackered for the entire second half. As for Moyes nothing has changed. He should have been sacked 6 weeks ago. For everyone’s sake he needs to go now before we are knocked out of the cup and end up in bottom 3. He has totally lost the support of the players, when u see players like Rice pulling out of challenges it says everything. A message to the board put everyone out of their misery now. We did not dominate that game at any stage.

Arsenal were a better side than us, with several attacking routes and a midfield inventive. No surprise on form, but we look a bit of a busted flush at the moment. Most worrying is the lack of performance from the newbies. We haven’t got time to wait. Come on Moyes, you signed Kehrer and Paqueta, you must know for what purpose?

Curious that Scott Parker was there in the Pundit capacity, I don’t know what was wrong with him but he was shaking like a leaf when he was on the pitch before the game, it wasn’t that cold last night! 🤔

His nam has started to be mentioned as a possible replacement for Moyes, that would be really from left field! 😳

I know we all see things slightly differently but to say Kehrer was ‘steady’ and Soucek ‘much improved’ makes me think I was watching a different game!! Kehrer made one vital, left-footed challenge on the edge of our box in the 1st half but the way he got rolled by Nketiah for their 3rd goal must result in nightmares for the German for weeks to come. Soucek was simply anonymous and apparently completed 8 of his 19 attempted passes. Declan Rice has set unbelievably high standards throughout his entire West Ham career and has been a huge driving force since he was a teenager. However, in my opinion, yesterday’s performance was his worst ever in a West Ham shirt. He switched off completely after losing the ball in midfield allowing Odegaard time to shoot and ‘set-up’ the first goal. He then got shoved aside by Saka in the build up to the second goal, this was in addition to giving the ball away more times than I’ve ever seen from him. To his credit, he still did a lot more positive things than many others. My top WH players were Coufal and Dawson.

    I’d say:

    Fabianski 3
    Coufal 4
    Dawson 6
    Kehrer 4
    Cresswell 4
    Soucek 4
    Rice 5
    Bowen 5
    Paqueta 4
    Bowen 5
    Benrahma 4
    Antonio 3

And that’s being generous! Overall it was an abject performance and indicative of the players having no belief in the system.
