Huge relief as key Hammer remains

|

There’s been much talk of the Hammers failing to bring in a new striker during the summer window  and the arrival of Danny Ings has hardly torn up any trees .

The departure of Scamacca was deeply unfortunate but this is not the place to go into the reasons why.

The point of this piece is to say that I for one am delighted that Mikey Antonio remains on board because in my view he is certainly the best striker wee have had at the club since Marko Arnautovic.

Like many I became deeply worried when first Wolves and later the Saudis showed a big interest in our No 9 because where we would have been were he to have left is barely unthinkable.

Like all players the big fella has periods when he loses his form but he has started the new campaign in fabulous form despite the advancing years and has notched two goals in four games so far this season.

Despite not being in his best form last term he managed 14 goals in all competitions and 16 in 21/22. Given Arnautovic managed just 22 in two seasons Mike’s tally stands up well.

Personally I have been a huge admirer of the former Forest front man since he arrived and really hope this is where he ends his career.

Thanks Mikey!

Hear hear! I totally agree with you, Hugh. Michail has been a fantastic servant to the club over the years and we would be in a real mess without him now. Thanks Mikey for staying with us!
